Jeremiah 49:16

Studie

16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

Height relates to the desire for good and breadth relates to the knowledge of truth. Following that, something that is “broad” has a great capacity for truth, and a “broad place” or “broad land” is one where a large amount of truth can be learned and understood. This meaning also applies to town squares, which are mentioned several times in the Bible (the angels who visited Lot in Genesis 19 were initially going to stay in Sodom’s town square, for instance). “Square” or “town square” is modernized language; the literal translation is a “broad place” in the town.
