Ezekiel 47

Studie

1 And he returned me unto the entrance of the house; and, behold, waters went··out from under the threshold of the house eastward; for the face of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came··down from under from the right wing of the house, at the south side of the altar.

2 And he brought· me ·out of the way of the gate northward, and turned· me ·around the way outside to the gate outside by the way facing east; and, behold, there ran··out waters from the right wing.

3 When the man went··out eastward, and a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he made me cross··through in the waters; the waters were to the ankles.

4 And he measured a thousand, and made me pass··through the waters; the waters were to the knees. And he measured a thousand, and made me pass··through; the waters were to the loins.

5 And he measured a thousand, and it was a brook that I was· not ·able to pass··through; for the waters were risen··up, waters of swimming, a brook that he did not pass··through.

6 And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? And he made me go and return to the lip of the brook.

7 And when I had returned, behold, at the lip of the brook were very many trees on this side and on that.

8 And he said to me, These waters went··out toward the east boundary, and go··down upon the desert, and come toward the sea; to the sea they are brought··out, and the waters shall be healed.

9 And it shall be, that every soul that is alive, which crawls, whithersoever the brooks shall come, shall live; and there shall be very many fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the brook comes.

10 And it shall be, that the fishers shall stand on it from En-gedi and even··to Eneglaim; they shall be a place for spreading nets; their fish shall be according··to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceedingly many.

11 But the quagmires of it and the marshes of it shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.

12 And by the brook on its lip, on this side and on that side, shall come··up every tree for food; its leaf shall not fade, and its fruit shall not be finished; it shall renew· its ·firstfruits according··to its months, for its waters, they go··out from the sanctuary; and its fruit shall be for food, and its leaf for healing.

13 Thus says the Lord Jehovih*; This shall be the border, by which you shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two regions.

14 And you shall inherit it, a man as his brother; for which I lifted My hand to give it to your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance.

15 And this shall be the border of the land toward the north quarter, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go··in to Zedad;

16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is toward the border of Hauran.

17 And the border from the sea shall be Hazarenan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north quarter.

18 And the east quarter you shall measure from between Hauran, and from Damascus, and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border by the eastern sea. And this is the east quarter.

19 And the south quarter southward, from Tamar even··to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the brook to the great sea. And this is the south quarter southward.

20 And the west quarter shall be the great sea from the border, until one comes up··against Hamath. This is the west quarter.

21 And you shall part this land to yourselves for the tribes of Israel.

22 And it shall be, that you shall allot it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the sojourners that sojourn in your midst, which shall beget sons in your midst; and they shall be to you as natives among the sons of Israel; they shall allot an inheritance with you in the midst of the tribes of Israel.

23 And it shall be, that in the tribe where the sojourner sojourns, shall you give him his inheritance, says the Lord Jehovih.

158. ADDITIONAL NOTE

Since this chapter has dealt with the Holy Spirit, it is of importance to note that the Holy Spirit is nowhere named in the Old Testament Word, but only 'the Spirit of holiness' in three passages, one in the Psalms of David (Psalms 51:11), and two in Isaiah (Isaiah 63:10-11). But there are frequent references in the New Testament Word, as much in the Gospels as in the Acts of the Apostles and in their Epistles. The reason is that the Holy Spirit first existed when the Lord came into the world, for it came out of Him from the Father; for 'the Lord alone is holy' (Revelation 15:4). For this reason too the angel Gabriel speaking to Mary the mother of Jesus said 'the holy thing which will be born of you' (Luke 1:35). The reason why we read 'The Holy Spirit was not yet, because Jesus was not yet glorified' (John 7:39), although it was said earlier that the Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth (Luke 1:41) and Zechariah (Luke 1:67), as well as Simeon (Luke 2:25), was that it was the spirit of Jehovah the Father which filled them; and it was called the Holy Spirit because the Lord was already at that time in the world.

This is why nowhere in the Old Testament Word does it say that the Prophets spoke from the Holy Spirit, but from Jehovah. For everywhere we read 'Jehovah spoke to me', 'The Word from Jehovah came to me', 'Jehovah said', 'The saying of Jehovah.'

To remove all possibility of doubt I propose to quote the passages solely in Jeremiah where these expressions occur:

51:25, 33, 36, 39, 52, 58.

These are solely from Jeremiah. There are similar expressions in all the other Prophets, but it is never said that the Holy Spirit spoke, nor that Jehovah spoke to them by means of the Holy Spirit.

Jeremiah 20:4

Studie

4 For thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall kill them with the sword.
