Ezekiel 18

Studie

1 And the word of Jehovah was unto me, saying,

2 What is it for you, that you enunciate this enunciation on the ground of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten a wild··grape, and the teeth of the sons are dulled?

3 As I am alive, says the Lord Jehovih*, there shall not be to thee occasion any··more to enunciate this enunciation in Israel.

4 Behold, all the souls, they are Mine; as the soul of the father, and as the soul of the son, they are Mine; the soul that sins, it shall··die.

5 But if a man be just, and do judgment and justice,

6 and has not eaten in the mountains, and has not lifted his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, and has defiled not the wife of his companion, and has not come··near to a woman in her isolation*,

7 and has not exploited a man, but has returned to the endangered his pledge, has not robbed with robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment,

8 has not given into usury, and has not taken interest, has turned··back his hand from perversity, has made the judgment of truth between a man and a man,

9 has walked in My statutes, and has kept My judgments, to do truth; he is just, living he shall live, says the Lord Jehovih.

10 But if he beget a son who is a robber*, a shedder of blood, or who makes himself a brother of any one of these things,

11 and he does not any of those duties, but even has eaten in the mountains, and defiled the wife of his companion,

12 has exploited the afflicted and needy, has robbed with robbery, has not returned the pledge, and has lifted his eyes to the idols, has made an abomination,

13 has given with usury, and has taken interest; shall he then live? And he shall not live; he has done all these abominations; dying he shall die; his bloods* shall be upon him.

14 And behold, if he beget a son, and he sees all the sins of his father which he has done, and sees and does not do deeds like them,

15 who has not eaten upon the mountains, neither has lifted··up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled the wife of his companion,

16 and has not exploited a man, has not pledged what was already pledged, neither has robbed with robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment,

17 has turned··back his hand from the afflicted, has not taken usury and interest, has done My judgments, has walked in My statutes; he shall not die in the iniquity of his father, living he shall live.

18 As for his father, because he oppressed with oppression, robbed his brother with robbery, and did what is not good in the midst of his people, and behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

19 And you say, Wherefore? The son does not bear the iniquity of the father. But if the son has done judgment and justice, and has kept all My statutes, and has done them, living he shall live.

20 The soul that sins, it shall··die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the justice of the just shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

21 But if the wicked will turn··back from all his sins that he has done, and keep all My statutes, and do judgment and justice, living he shall live; he shall not die.

22 All his transgressions that he has done, they shall not be remembered as··to him; in his justice that he has done he shall live.

23 Delighting do I delight··in the death of the wicked, says the Lord Jehovih, and not in his returning from his ways, that he should live?

24 But when the just turns··back from his justice, and does perversity, and does according··to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All his justice that he has done shall not be remembered; in his trespass that he trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall··die.

25 But you say, The way of the Lord is· not ·fair*. Hear now, O house of Israel: Is· not My way ·fair? Are· not your ways not ·fair?

26 When a just man turns··back from his justice, and does perversity, and dies by them, for his perversity that he has done he shall··die.

27 And, when the wicked turns··back from his wickedness that he has done, and does judgment and justice, he shall make· his soul ·live.

28 And if he sees, and turns··back from all his transgressions that he has done, living he shall live; he shall· not ·die.

29 But the house of Israel says, The way of the Lord is· not ·fair. O house of Israel, are· not My ways ·fair? Are· not your ways not ·fair?

30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, each··man according··to his ways, says the Lord Jehovih. Return, and turn··back from all your transgressions, and it shall not be for you for a stumblingblock of iniquity.

31 Cast from upon you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed, and make for you a new heart and a new spirit; and why will· you ·die, O house of Israel?

32 For I have no delight in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Jehovih; but turn··back, and live ye.

Isaiah 36:6

6 Behold, thou trustest on the staff of this fractured reed, on Egypt; upon which, if a man be supported, it will come into the palm of his hand and puncture it; such is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all that trust on him.
