1
And men◦ of the elders of Israel came unto▵ me, and sat before me.
2
And the word of Jehovah was unto▵ me, saying,
3
Son of man, these men◦ have made their idols come··up in their heart, and put◦ the stumblingblock of their iniquity opposite their face; inquiring should I be inquired of by them?
4
Therefore speak to them, and say unto▵ them, Thus says the Lord Jehovih*; A man◦, a man◦ of the house of Israel who makes his idols go··up in▵ his heart, and sets the stumblingblock of his iniquity up··against his face, and comes to▵ the prophet; I◦, Jehovah, will answer him that comes with the multitude of his idols;
5
so··that I may catch the house of Israel in their own heart, in that all of them have become··strangers to Me by their idols.
6
Therefore say to▵ the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord Jehovih; Return, and turn· yourselves ·back from your idols; and turn··back your faces from all your abominations.
7
For a man◦, a man◦ from the house of Israel, and from the sojourner who sojourns in Israel, who separates▵ himself from following after Me, and makes his idols go··up in▵ his heart, and sets the stumblingblock of his iniquity up··against his face, and comes to▵ the prophet to inquire of◦ him concerning Me; I◦, Jehovah, will answer him Myself;
8
and I will put◦ My face against◦ that◦ man◦, and will make him desolate, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut· him ·off from the midst of My people; and you shall know that I◦ am Jehovah.
9
And if▫ the prophet be enticed when he has spoken a word, I◦, Jehovah, have enticed that◦ prophet, and I will stretch··out My hand upon him, and will blot· him ·out from the midst of My people Israel.
10
And they shall bear their iniquity; as the iniquity of him who inquires of the prophet, so◦ shall be the iniquity of the prophet;
11
so··that the house of Israel may go··astray no◦ more◦ from following after Me; and be defiled no◦ more◦ with all their transgressions; but that they may be My people, and I◦ may be their God, says◦ the Lord Jehovih.
12
And the word of Jehovah was to▵ me, saying,
13
Son of man, when◦ the land sin against▵ Me by trespassing a trespass, then will I stretch··out My hand upon it, and will break the rod of the bread, and will send famine upon◦ it, and will cut··off man and beast from it;
14
though these three men▵, Noaḥ, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of it, they◦ should rescue but their own souls by their justice, says◦ the Lord Jehovih.
15
If◦ I cause evil animals to pass··through the land, and they bereave it, so that it be desolate, that no··one▵ may pass··through on··account··of◦ the animals;
16
though these three men◦ were in the midst of it, as I◦ am alive, says◦ the Lord Jehovih, they shall rescue neither sons nor daughters; they◦ alone shall be rescued, but the land shall be desolate.
17
Or if I bring a sword upon that◦ land, and say, sword, pass··through the land; that I cut··off man and beast from it:
18
though these three men◦ were in the midst of it, as I◦ am alive, says◦ the Lord Jehovih, they shall rescue neither sons nor daughters, but◦ they◦ alone shall be rescued themselves.
19
Or if I send a pestilence into▵ that◦ land, and spill My fury upon it in blood, to cut··off from it man and beast:
20
though Noaḥ, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of it, as I◦ am alive, says◦ the Lord Jehovih, they◦ shall rescue neither son nor daughter; they shall but rescue their own souls by their justice.
21
For thus says the Lord Jehovih; Indeed◦ when◦ I send My four judgments of evil unto▵ Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil animal, and the pestilence, to cut··off from her man and beast?
22
But, behold, in it shall remain a deliverance that shall be brought··forth, of sons and daughters; behold, they shall come··out unto▵ you, and you shall see their way and their actions; and you shall be comforted over the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, with all that I have brought upon her.
23
And they shall comfort you, when◦ you see their ways and their actions; and you shall know that I have not done without··cause all that I have done in it, says◦ the Lord Jehovih.
