Jeremiah 3

Studie

They say, If a man send··away his wife, and she go away from being with him, and be for another man, shall he still return unto her? Shall not this land being contaminated be··contaminated? And thou hast committed··harlotry with many companions, and would return to Me, says Jehovah.

Lift thine eyes on the slopes, and see where thou hast not been ravished. On the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast··contaminated the land with thy harlotry and with thine evil.

And the raindrops have been withheld, and there has been no later··rain; and there was to thee the forehead of a woman, a harlot, thou didst refuse to be humiliated.

Wilt thou not from now on call to Me, My Father, Thou art the leader of my youth?

Will He bear··a··grudge to eternity, will He keep it perpetually? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evils as thou wast··able.

And Jehovah said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen what backturned Israel has done? She has gone upon every lofty mountain and under every green tree, and has committed··harlotry there.

And I said after she had done all these things, Return thou to Me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah* saw,

and I saw, when, on··account··of all the causes by which backturning Israel committed··adultery, that I sent· her ·away, and gave to her a letter of divorce. But her treacherous sister Judah feared not, and she, even she, went and committed··harlotry.

And it was, from the voice of her harlotry, that she contaminated the land, and committed··adultery with the stone and with the wood.

And even with all this her treacherous sister Judah has not returned to Me with all her heart, but falsely, says Jehovah.

And Jehovah said to me, Backturning Israel has justified her soul more than treacherous Judah.

Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backturning Israel, says Jehovah; I will not cause My face to fall upon you; for I am merciful, says Jehovah, I will not bear··a··grudge to eternity.

Only know thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against Jehovah thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, says Jehovah.

Return, O back-turning sons, says Jehovah; for I am married to you; and I will take you, one from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

and I will give you shepherds according··to My heart, and they shall shepherd you with knowledge and intelligence.

And it shall be, when you be multiplied and made··fruitful in the land, in those days, says Jehovah, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of Jehovah; neither shall it come to heart; neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any··more.

At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of Jehovah; and all the nations shall be gathered··together to her, to the name of Jehovah, to Jerusalem; and they shall not go any··more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out··of the land of the north to the land that I have given··for··an··inheritance unto your fathers.

But I said, How shall I put thee among the sons, and give thee a desirable land, an elegant heritage of the armies of nations? And I said, Thou shalt call Me, My Father; and shalt not turn··back from after Me.

Surely, as a wife acts··treacherously with her companion, so have you acted··treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, says Jehovah.

A voice was heard on the slopes, weeping and supplications of the sons of Israel; for they have turned· their way ·upside··down, they have forgotten Jehovah their God.

Return, ye back-turning sons; I will heal your backturnings. Behold, we come unto Thee; for Thou art Jehovah our God.

Surely for the falsity from the hills is the noise of mountains; surely in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.

And shame has devoured the toil of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

We lie in our shame, and our humiliation covers us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even until this day, and have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.
