^{42 43} And all the men^◦ of Judah answered the men^◦ of Israel, Because^◦ the king is near to^▵ me; and why then be· you ·incensed over this matter? Eating, have we eaten of the king’s, or accepted a present for ourselves?

⁸ And, behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Baḥurim, and he^◦ reviled me with a reviling that was·​·grievous in the day of my going to Mahanaim; but he^◦ came·​·down to meet me at the Jordan, and I promised to him by Jehovah, saying, I will· not^▫ ·put· thee ·to·​·death with the sword.
