1 Samuel 15

Studie

1 And Samuel said to Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint thee to be king over His people, over Israel; and now hearken to the voice of the words of Jehovah.

2 Thus says Jehovah of Armies, I will visit that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set an ambush for him on the way, when he came··up from Egypt.

3 Now go and smite Amalek, and doom all that he has, and pity him not, but put··to··death from a man even··to a woman, from a babe and even··to a nursing infant, from an ox and even··to a sheep, from a camel and even··to a donkey.

4 And Saul caused the people to hear this, and mustered them in Telaim two··hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek and set··an··ambush in the gully.

6 And Saul said to the Kenite, Go, remove thyself, come··down from the midst of the Amalekite, lest I gather thee with him, and thou didst mercy with all the sons of Israel, when they came··up from Egypt. And the Kenite removed himself from the midst of Amalek.

7 And Saul smote Amalek from Havilah as thou comest to Shur, which is before Egypt.

8 And he caught··hold of Agag the king of Amalek, alive, and all the people he doomed to the mouth of the sword.

9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the flock and of the herd, and of the second sort*, and the rams, and all that was good, and were· not ·willing to doom them; but every thing* despised and worthless, it they doomed.

10 And the word of Jehovah was to Samuel, saying,

11 I repent that for a king I made· Saul ·king, for he has turned··back from following after Me, and My words he has not performed. And Samuel was··incensed, and he cried to Jehovah all the night.

12 And Samuel got··up··early to meet Saul in the morning, and it was··told Samuel, saying, Saul has come to Carmel, and, behold, he has set··up a place* for himself, and has turned··around and passed··on, and gone··down to Gilgal.

13 And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, Blessed art thou of Jehovah, I have performed the word of Jehovah.

14 And Samuel said, And what is this voice of the flock in my ears, and the voice of the cattle which I hear?

15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites, that the people spared the best of the flock and the cattle in··order··to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God, and what remained we doomed.

16 And Samuel said to Saul, Let··go, and I will tell thee what Jehovah spoke to me tonight. And he said to him, Speak.

17 And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own eyes, wast thou not head of the tribes of Israel, and Jehovah anointed thee king over Israel?

18 And Jehovah sent thee on a way, and said, Go and doom the sinners, Amalek, and fight against him until they be all··consumed.

19 And why didst thou not obey the voice of Jehovah, but didst swoop on the spoil, and didst this evil in the eyes of Jehovah?

20 And Saul said unto Samuel, But I have hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and have gone the way which Jehovah sent me, and have brought Agag, the king of Amalek, and have··doomed Amalek.

21 But the people took of the spoil, of the flock and herd, the best* of what was doomed*, to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.

22 And Samuel said, Has Jehovah delight in burnt··offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to attend than the fat of rams.

23 For the sin of divination* is rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim are an obsession. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He also has rejected thee from being king.

24 And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have passed··by the command of the mouth of Jehovah and thy words, for I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

25 And now, I pray thee, bear with my sin, and turn··back with me, and I will worship Jehovah.

26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not turn··back with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah has rejected thee from being king over Israel.

27 And Samuel turned··around to go, and Saul held· the wing of his mantle ·firmly, and it ripped.

28 And Samuel said to him, Jehovah has rent the kingdom of Israel from thee today, and has given her to thy companion, who is better than thou.

29 And also the Victory of Israel will not do··falsely nor repent; for He is not man, to repent.

30 And he said, I have sinned now; yet honor me now in··the··presence··of the elders of my people, and in··the··presence··of Israel, and turn··back with me, and I will worship Jehovah thy God.

31 And Samuel turned··back after Saul, and Saul worshipped Jehovah.

32 And Samuel said, Present Agag, the king of Amalek, to me. And Agag went to him with pleasure. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is removed.

33 And Samuel said, As thy sword has bereaved women, so shall thy mother be bereaved among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.

34 And Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went··up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

35 And Samuel saw Saul no more until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul; and Jehovah repented that He had made Saul to reign over Israel.

18 And one of the lads answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite; he knows how to strum and is mighty in valor, a man of war, and understanding of words, and a man of form, and Jehovah is with him.
