¹ これらの事の後、主の言葉が幻のうちにアブラムに臨んだ、「アブラムよ恐れてはならない、わたしはあなたの盾である。あなたの受ける報いは、はなはだ大きいであろう」。

² アブラムは言った、「主なる神よ、わたしには子がなく、わたしの家を継ぐ者はダマスコのエリエゼルであるのに、あなたはわたしに何をくださろうとするのですか」。

³ アブラムはまた言った、「あなたはわたしに子を賜わらないので、わたしの家に生れたしもべが、あとつぎとなるでしょう」。

⁴ この時、主の言葉が彼に臨んだ、「この者はあなたのあとつぎとなるべきではありません。あなたの身から出る者があとつぎとなるべきです」。

⁵ そして主は彼を外に連れ出して言われた、「天を仰いで、星を数えることができるなら、数えてみなさい」。また彼に言われた、「あなたの子孫はあのようになるでしょう」。

⁶ アブラムは主を信じた。主はこれを彼の義と認められた。

⁷ また主は彼に言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたに与えて、これを継がせようと、あなたをカルデヤのウルから導き出した主です」。

⁸ 彼は言った、「主なる神よ、わたしがこれを継ぐのをどうして知ることができますか」。

⁹ 主は彼に言われた、「三歳の雌牛と、三歳の雌やぎと、三歳の雄羊と、山ばとと、家ばとのひなとをわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。

¹⁰ 彼はこれらをみな連れてきて、二つに裂き、裂いたものを互に向かい合わせて置いた。ただし、鳥は裂かなかった。　　

¹¹ 荒い鳥が死体の上に降りるとき、アブラムはこれを追い払った。

¹² 日の入るころ、アブラムが深い眠りにおそわれた時、大きな恐ろしい暗やみが彼に臨んだ。

¹³ 時に主はアブラムに言われた、「あなたはよく心にとめておきなさい。あなたの子孫は他の国に旅びととなって、その人々に仕え、その人々は彼らを四百年の間、悩ますでしょう。

¹⁴ しかし、わたしは彼らが仕えたその国民をさばきます。その後かれらは多くの財産を携えて出て来るでしょう。

¹⁵ あなたは安らかに先祖のもとに行きます。そして高齢に達して葬られるでしょう。

¹⁶ 四代目になって彼らはここに帰って来るでしょう。アモリびとの悪がまだ満ちないからです」。

¹⁷ やがて日は入り、暗やみになった時、煙の立つかまど、炎の出るたいまつが、裂いたものの間を通り過ぎた。

¹⁸ その日、主はアブラムと契約を結んで言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたの子孫に与える。エジプトの川から、かの大川ユフラテまで。

¹⁹ すなわちケニびと、ケニジびと、カドモニびと、

²⁰ ヘテびと、ペリジびと、レパイムびと、

²¹ アモリびと、カナンびと、ギルガシびと、エブスびとの地を与える」。

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

² Abram said, "Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"

³ Abram said, "Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir."

⁴ Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir."

⁵ Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be."

⁶ He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.

⁷ He said to him, "I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it."

⁸ He said, "Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?"

⁹ He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon."

¹⁰ He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds.

¹¹ The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

¹² When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.

¹³ He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

¹⁴ I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,

¹⁵ but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.

¹⁶ In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full."

¹⁷ It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

¹⁸ In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

¹⁹ the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."
