Versetti 1-6. Il Signore recluta l'anima con la vita spirituale quando c'è ricezione; è l'uomo stesso che rifiuta l'influsso divino.

Versi 7-14. L'impianto del bene e della verità nell'anima nell'infanzia e nella giovinezza.

Versi 15-33. La declinazione dell'uomo naturale dalla verità divina, e la conseguente distruzione del bene e della verità nell'anima.

Versetti 34-43. Ma quando l'anima ha trovato per esperienza la futilità di tutto il resto e si rivolge al Signore, i suoi mali e le sue falsità vengono dissipati.

Versetti 44-52. L'assoluta necessità di eseguire la volontà divina nella vita viene nuovamente impressa nell'anima. La verità dà all'anima una percezione del cielo, ma non può portarla lì finché non viene eseguita nella vita.

In the spiritual meaning, the Lord's body or flesh, like the bread, is the goodness of love, and the Lord's blood, like the wine, is the goodness of faith, while eating is our making these kinds of goodness our own and becoming joined to the Lord by them. This is how the angels who are with us when we are taking the Holy Supper understand it, because they perceive everything spiritually. Therefore holy love and holy faith flow into us from the angels-that is, through heaven from the Lord-at that time, and this brings about the partnership.
