To many Protestant and Evangelical Italians, the Bibles translated by Giovanni Diodati are an important part of their history. Diodati’s first Italian Bible edition was printed in 1607, and his second in 1641. He died in 1649. Throughout the 1800s two editions of Diodati’s text were printed by the British Foreign Bible Society. This is the more recent 1894 edition, translated by Claudiana.

Il Signore è l'amore stesso, espresso sotto forma di saggezza. L'amore, quindi, è la sua essenza, il suo intimo. La saggezza - la comprensione amorosa di come mettere in atto l'amore - è un po' più esterna, dando all'amore un modo di esprimersi.
Quando la Bibbia parla di "Geova", rappresenta quell'amore intimo che è l'essenza del Signore. Che l'amore è uno, intero e completo in sé, e anche Geova è uno, un nome applicato solo al Signore. La saggezza, tuttavia, si esprime in una grande varietà di pensieri e idee, ciò che gli Scritti chiamano collettivamente verità divina. Ci sono anche molti dei immaginari, e a volte gli angeli e le persone possono essere chiamati dei (il Signore disse che Mosè sarebbe stato come un dio per Aronne). Così, quando la Bibbia chiama il Signore "Dio", nella maggior parte dei casi si riferisce alla verità divina.
In altri casi, "Dio" fa riferimento a quello che viene chiamato l'umano divino. Il caso è questo:
Come esseri umani non possiamo impegnare direttamente il Signore come amore divino. È troppo potente e troppo puro. Dobbiamo invece avvicinarci a Lui comprendendolo attraverso la verità divina. La verità divina, quindi, è il Signore in forma umana, una forma che possiamo avvicinare e comprendere. Così "Dio" è usato anche in riferimento a questo aspetto umano, perché è espressione di verità.

2769. 'And He said to him, Abraham' means the Lord's perception from Divine Truth. This is clear from the meaning of 'saying' - in the historical parts of the Word - as perceiving, dealt with in 1898, 1919, 2080, 2619, and from the representation of 'Abraham' as the Lord. This perception sprang from Divine Truth, as may be seen from the consideration that the name GOD is used, not JEHOVAH. For in the Word when truth is the subject the name God occurs, but when good is the subject the name Jehovah, see 2586. This explains why the name God is used in the present verse and in those that follow as far as verse 11, in that temptation is the subject in those verses, and why Jehovah is used in verse 11 and those that follow, in that deliverance is the subject in these verses. For it is from truth that all temptation and condemnation come about, but from good that all deliverance and salvation are effected. Truth condemns but good saves, see 1685, 2258, 2335.
