Amos 8:5

Studie

5 dicendo: Quando saranno passate le calendi, e noi venderemo la vittuaglia? e il sabato, e noi apriremo i granai del frumento? scemando l’efa, ed accrescendo il siclo, e falsando le bilance, per ingannare;

To many Protestant and Evangelical Italians, the Bibles translated by Giovanni Diodati are an important part of their history. Diodati’s first Italian Bible edition was printed in 1607, and his second in 1641. He died in 1649. Throughout the 1800s two editions of Diodati’s text were printed by the British Foreign Bible Society. This is the more recent 1894 edition, translated by Claudiana.

9641. 'And you shall make twenty boards for the dwelling-place' means good lending support to heaven in every respect and totally. This is clear from the meaning of 'the boards of the dwelling-place' as good lending support to heaven, dealt with in 9634; and from the meaning of 'twenty' as what is complete, thus what exists in every respect and totally. This is what 'twenty' means because multiple numbers have the same meaning as the simple ones of which they are the products, 5291, 5335, 5708, 7973, so that the number 'twenty' has the same meaning as ten and two which when multiplied together produce that number. For the meaning of 'ten' as that which is complete, and all, see 3107, 4638, and likewise 'two', 9103, 9166.

3866. From the internal sense of the words that Leah uttered concerning Reuben when he was born, namely 'Jehovah has seen my affliction, for now my husband will love me', one may recognize which attribute of the Church is meant by Reuben or the tribe named after Reuben, namely that which is the first stage of regeneration, or that which comes first when a person becomes the Church; and that that which comes first is the truth of doctrine by means of which he is able to arrive at the good of life.
