9041. And when men shall quarrel. That this signifies grievous contention among truths, is evident from the signification of “quarreling,” as being grievous contention; and from the signification of “men” [viri], here men of the sons of Israel, as being those who are of the church and in its truths; in the abstract sense, the truths of the church (see above, n. 9034).
