Der Mann aber wunderte sich ihrer und schwieg stille, bis er erkennete, ob der HERR zu seiner Reise Gnade gegeben hätte, oder nicht.

3124. 'Jehovah has led me to the house of my master's brethren' means to good, the source of truth. This is clear from the meaning of 'brethren's house' from which Rebekah came, as good from which truth springs. For 'the house of the brethren' means good, here the good from which truth springs, as is clear from the meaning of 'a house' as good, dealt with in 2233, 2234, 2559, and of 'brethren' as the source of that good from which truth springs, represented by Rebekah.
'Laban', as in Genesis 31:44, represents the goods of works, which have a place with people who are aside, that is, with the Gentiles. The good which 'Laban' represents is of limited use -- namely it serves to introduce genuine truths and goods, and that once it has performed that use, it is discarded. He signifies the affection of good in the natural self, or the affection of external good, and properly collateral good of a common stock.
