That this signifies a representative of the Word, is evident from the signification of “the two tables of the Testimony,” as being the Law in the whole complex, thus the Word (of which at the places cited in n. 10687); and from the signification of “in the hand of Moses,” as being a representative of the Word. (That Moses represented the Word may be seen at the places cited in n. 9372.) For this reason the tables were in his hand, by which, as a sign of the representation, was signified the Word.
