The Inner Meaning of the Prophets and Psalms # 176
176. Internal Meaning of Daniel, Chapter 5
1-4 Babylon profaned all things of heaven and of the church. (3)
5-6 It was perceived from the Word, that it was profane, (3)
7-9 but it was not perceived by the primates who were in that religion. (3)
10-24 It was confirmed by those who were in the truths of the church, that it was contrary to the Word for them to have exalted themselves above the Lord, and that thus they profaned things holy. (3)
25-28 That religion was at an end because there was no longer good and truth of the church. (3, 12)
29-30 Thus everything of the church there, came to an end. (3)
31 Worship of the Lord was thought about, as in the church. (2)
Daniel 5:1-4
1
Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2
Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from them.
3
Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.
4
They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
