1 Moïse convoqua toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, et leur dit: Voici les choses que l'Eternel ordonne de faire.

2 On travaillera six jours; mais le septième jour sera pour vous une chose sainte; c'est le sabbat, le jour du repos, consacré à l'Eternel. Celui qui fera quelque ouvrage ce jour-là, sera puni de mort.

3 Vous n'allumerez point de feu, dans aucune de vos demeures, le jour du sabbat.

4 Moïse parla à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, et dit: Voici ce que l'Eternel a ordonné.

5 Prenez sur ce qui vous appartient une offrande pour l'Eternel. Tout homme dont le coeur est bien disposé apportera en offrande à l'Eternel: de l'or, de l'argent et de l'airain;

6 des étoffes teintes en bleu, en pourpre, en cramoisi, du fin lin et du poil de chèvre;

7 des peaux de béliers teintes en rouge et des peaux de dauphins; du bois d'acacia;

8 de l'huile pour le chandelier, des aromates pour l'huile d'onction et pour le parfum odoriférant;

9 des pierres d'onyx et d'autres pierres pour la garniture de l'éphod et du pectoral.

10 Que tous ceux d'entre vous qui ont de l'habileté viennent et exécutent tout ce que l'Eternel a ordonné:

11 le tabernacle, sa tente et sa couverture, ses agrafes, ses planches, ses barres, ses colonnes et ses bases;

12 l'arche et ses barres, le propitiatoire, et le voile pour couvrir l'arche;

13 la table et ses barres, et tous ses ustensiles, et les pains de proposition;

14 le chandelier et ses ustensiles, ses lampes, et l'huile pour le chandelier;

15 l'autel des parfums et ses barres, l'huile d'onction et le parfum odoriférant, et le rideau de la porte pour l'entrée du tabernacle;

16 l'autel des holocaustes, sa grille d'airain, ses barres, et tous ses ustensiles; la cuve avec sa base;

17 les toiles du parvis, ses colonnes, ses bases, et le rideau de la porte du parvis;

18 les pieux du tabernacle, les pieux du parvis, et leurs cordages;

19 les vêtements d'office pour le service dans le sanctuaire, les vêtements sacrés pour le sacrificateur Aaron, et les vêtements de ses fils pour les fonctions du sacerdoce.

20 Toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël sortit de la présence de Moïse.

21 Tous ceux qui furent entraînés par le coeur et animés de bonne volonté vinrent et apportèrent une offrande à l'Eternel pour l'oeuvre de la tente d'assignation, pour tout son service, et pour les vêtements sacrés.

22 Les hommes vinrent aussi bien que les femmes; tous ceux dont le coeur était bien disposé apportèrent des boucles, des anneaux, des bagues, des bracelets, toutes sortes d'objets d'or; chacun présenta l'offrande d'or qu'il avait consacrée à l'Eternel.

23 Tous ceux qui avaient des étoffes teintes en bleu, en pourpre, en cramoisi, du fin lin et du poil de chèvre, des peaux de béliers teintes en rouge et des peaux de dauphins, les apportèrent.

24 Tous ceux qui présentèrent par élévation une offrande d'argent et d'airain apportèrent l'offrande à l'Eternel. Tous ceux qui avaient du bois d'acacia pour les ouvrages destinés au service, l'apportèrent.

25 Toutes les femmes qui avaient de l'habileté filèrent de leurs mains, et elles apportèrent leur ouvrage, des fils teints en bleu, en pourpre, en cramoisi, et du fin lin.

26 Toutes les femmes dont le coeur était bien disposé, et qui avaient de l'habileté, filèrent du poil de chèvre.

27 Les principaux du peuple apportèrent des pierres d'onyx et d'autres pierres pour la garniture de l'éphod et du pectoral;

28 des aromates et de l'huile pour le chandelier, pour l'huile d'onction et pour le parfum odoriférant.

29 Tous les enfants d'Israël, hommes et femmes, dont le coeur était disposé à contribuer pour l'oeuvre que l'Eternel avait ordonnée par Moïse, apportèrent des offrandes volontaires à l'Eternel.

30 Moïse dit aux enfants d'Israël: Sachez que l'Eternel a choisi Betsaleel, fils d'Uri, fils de Hur, de la tribu de Juda.

31 Il l'a rempli de l'Esprit de Dieu, de sagesse, d'intelligence, et de savoir pour toutes sortes d'ouvrages.

32 Il l'a rendu capable de faire des inventions, de travailler l'or, l'argent et l'airain,

33 de graver les pierres à enchâsser, de travailler le bois, et d'exécuter toutes sortes d'ouvrages d'art.

34 Il lui a accordé aussi le don d'enseigner, de même qu'à Oholiab, fils d'Ahisamac, de la tribu de Dan.

35 Il les a remplis d'intelligence, pour exécuter tous les ouvrages de sculpture et d'art, pour broder et tisser les étoffes teintes en bleu, en pourpre, en cramoisi, et le fin lin, pour faire toute espèce de travaux et d'inventions.

9294. 'And the feast of the harvest of the firstfruits of [your] labours, which you have sown in the field' means worship of the Lord and thanksgiving on account of the implanting of truth in that good. This is clear from the meaning of 'the feast' as worship of the Lord and thanksgiving, dealt with above in 9286, 9287; from the meaning of 'the harvest' as truth when it becomes fruitful, thus its implantation in good; from the meaning of 'the firstfruits (or the beginnings) of labours' as the things which come at the end of instruction and at the start of life, dealt with below; from the meaning of 'sowing' as giving instruction, dealt with in 9272; and from the meaning of 'the field' as the Church in respect of good, and so the Church's good, dealt with in 2971, 3500, 3766, 7502, 9139, 9141. From these meanings it is evident that 'the feast of the harvest of the firstfruits of labours, which you have sown in the field' means worship of the Lord and thanksgiving because truth has been planted in good.

[2] The fact that these things are meant by this second feast is clear from what has been stated above in 9286, namely that three feasts were established on account of people's deliverance from damnation, thus on account of their regeneration since it is through regeneration that a person is delivered from hell and brought to heaven. On this account the first feast, which was called the feast of unleavened bread, means purification from falsities; this second feast therefore means the planting of truth in good; and the third feast the implantation of good. For when a person is being regenerated he is first purified from falsities that arise from the evil of self-love and love of the world. That purification is accomplished by his being taught about evil, hell, and damnation, also about good, heaven, and eternal happiness, as a result of which he allows himself to be held back from evil deeds, intentions, and thoughts. When the ground has been prepared in that way, the truths of faith are sown in it, for they are not received before that. But the truths that are sown must be planted in good, for they have no ground anywhere else nor can they take root anywhere else. They are planted in good when a person wills truth, loves it, and does it. This state of regeneration or deliverance from damnation is meant by this feast, which is called 'the feast of the harvest of the firstfruits of labours', for 'the harvest' means truths when productive of good.

[3] When truths have been planted in good a person is no longer led by the Lord by means of truths but by means of good. This comes about when he wills good and does good from love and affection, that is, from charity. This state of regeneration or deliverance from damnation is meant by the third feast, which is called the feast of ingathering.

[4] These three feasts were also called the feast of Passover, the feast of weeks, and the feast of tabernacles; regarding these, see Exodus 34:18-22; Leviticus 23:1-end; Deuteronomy 16:1-end. By these three feasts the same things were represented as by the children of Israel being brought out of the land of Egypt, by their being brought into the land of Canaan, and by their dwelling in it. By the children of Israel being brought out of the land of Egypt the same thing was represented as by the first feast, called the Passover. This may be seen to be so from what has been shown regarding the Passover in 7093(end), 7867, 7995. For the bringing out of the children of Israel, on account of which that feast was established, meant the deliverance of those belonging to the spiritual Church from falsities by which they were molested, 7240, 7317, 9197.

[5] By the children of Israel being brought into the land of Canaan the same thing, namely the planting of truth in good, was represented as by this second feast, which was called 'the feast of the harvest of the firstfruits of labours' and also 'the feast of weeks'. For 'the land of Canaan' is the Church in respect of good, and so the Church's good, 1607, 3038, 3481, 3686, 3705, 4240, 4447, 4517, 5136, 6516, and 'the children of Israel' - in the abstract, without envisaging actual persons - are spiritual truths, 5414, 5879, 5951.

[6] By the dwelling of the children of Israel in the land of Canaan the same thing, namely the implantation of good and so life in heaven, was represented as by the third feast, which was called 'the feast of ingathering' of the fruits of the earth, and of ingathering from the threshing-floor and the press, also 'the feast of tabernacles'.

From all this it is now evident why three feasts were established, namely for the reason that the human race, which wishes to receive new life from the Lord, is brought out of hell and into heaven, which is accomplished by the Lord through His Coming into the world.

5414. 'And the sons of Israel came to buy in the midst of others who came' means the wish to acquire spiritual truths, like all other truths, through factual knowledge. This is clear from the meaning of 'the sons of Israel' as spiritual truths (for 'sons' are truths, see above in 5403, and 'Israel' is the celestial-spiritual man coming out of the natural, 4286, 4570, 4598, so that 'the sons of Israel' are spiritual truths within the natural); from the meaning of 'buying' as being acquired; and from the meaning of 'in the midst of others who came' as like all other truths, that is to say, ones acquired through factual knowledge.
