1 Ja Aabraham võttis taas naise, nimega Ketuura.

2 Ja see tõi temale ilmale Simrani, Joksani, Medani, Midjani, Jisbaki ja Suuahi.

3 Ja Joksanile sündisid Seeba ja Dedan; ja Dedani järeltulijad olid assüürlased, letuuslased ja leumlased.

4 Ja Midjani pojad olid Eefa, Eefer, Hanok, Abiida ja Eldaa. Need kõik olid Ketuura järeltulijad.

5 Ja Aabraham andis kõik, mis tal oli, Iisakile.

6 Aga liignaiste poegadele, kes Aabrahamil olid, andis Aabraham ande ja saatis nad veel oma eluajal oma poja Iisaki juurest ära hommiku poole, Hommikumaale.

7 Ja Aabrahami eluea aastaid, mis ta elas, oli sada seitsekümmend viis aastat.

8 Ja Aabraham heitis hinge ning suri heas vanuses, vana ning elatanud, ja ta koristati oma rahva juurde.

9 Ja ta pojad Iisak ja Ismael matsid tema Makpela koopasse, hett Sohari poja Efroni väljal, mis on Mamre kohal,

10 väljale, mille Aabraham hettidelt oli ostnud, maeti Aabraham ja tema naine Saara.

11 Ja pärast Aabrahami surma õnnistas Jumal ta poega Iisakit. Ja Iisak elas Lahhai-Roi kaevu juures.

12 Ja need olid Ismaeli, Aabrahami poja järeltulijad, keda egiptlanna Haagar, Saara teenija, Aabrahamile ilmale tõi.

13 Ismaeli poegade nimed, nimetatud nende sündimise järjekorras, olid need: Nebajot, Ismaeli esmasündinu, siis Keedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

14 Misma, Duuma, Massa,

15 Hadad, Teema, Jetuur, Naafis ja Keedma.

16 Need olid Ismaeli pojad ja need olid nende nimed vastavalt nende asulatele ja leeridele: nende suguharude kaksteist vürsti.

17 Ja need olid Ismaeli eluaastad: sada kolmkümmend seitse aastat; siis ta heitis hinge ja suri, ja ta koristati oma rahva juurde.

18 Ja nad asusid Havilast kuni vastu Egiptust oleva Suurini Assuri suunas, tungides kallale kõigile oma vendadele.

19 Ja need olid Iisaki, Aabrahami poja järeltulijad: Aabrahamile sündis Iisak.

20 Ja Iisak oli neljakümneaastane, kui ta võttis enesele naiseks Rebeka, süürlase Betueli tütre Mesopotaamiast, süürlase Laabani õe.

21 Ja Iisak palus Issandat oma naise pärast, sest see oli viljatu; ja Issand kuulis ta palvet ja ta naine Rebeka jäi lapseootele.

22 Aga kui lapsed ta ihus tõuklesid, ütles ta: 'Mispärast on see minuga nõnda?' Ja ta läks Issandalt küsima.

23 Ja Issand vastas temale: 'Su ihus on kaks rahvast, kaks erinevat hõimu saab su üsast alguse: üks rahvas on vägevam teisest - vanem orjab nooremat.'

24 Ja kui tema sünnitamise aeg saabus, vaata, siis olid ta ihus kaksikud.

25 See, kes sündis esimesena, oli punakas, täiesti nagu karune kuub; ja temale pandi nimeks Eesav.

26 Seejärel sündis ta vend, kelle käsi hoidis kinni Eesavi kannast; ja temale pandi nimeks Jaakob. Iisak oli kuuskümmend aastat vana, kui nad sündisid.

27 Ja poisid kasvasid suureks. Eesavist sai osav kütt, väljal uitaja, aga Jaakob oli vagane mees, kes elas telkides.

28 Ja Iisak armastas Eesavit, sest jahisaak oli temale suupärane; aga Rebeka armastas Jaakobit.

29 Kord keetis Jaakob leent, Eesav aga tuli väljalt ning oli väsinud.

30 Ja Eesav ütles Jaakobile: 'Anna mulle ometi süüa seda punast, seda punast leent, sest ma olen väsinud!' Sellepärast hakati teda kutsuma Edomiks.

31 Aga Jaakob ütles: 'Enne müü mulle oma esmasünniõigus!'

32 Ja Eesav vastas: 'Vaata, mina ju suren niikuinii, milleks mulle siis veel esmasünniõigus!'

33 Siis ütles Jaakob: 'Vannu mulle enne!' Ja ta vandus temale ning müüs oma esmasünniõiguse Jaakobile.

34 Ja Jaakob andis Eesavile leiba ja läätseleent; ja tema sõi ja jõi, tõusis üles ja läks ära. Nii vähe hoolis Eesav esmasünniõigusest.

658. Their bodies three days and a half. 1 - That this signifies the complete extinction of Divine Truth and Divine Good, is evident from the signification of bodies, namely, of the witnesses, as denoting those who have extinguished in themselves all Divine Truth and Divine Good. For the two witnesses, whom they slew, signify the goods of love and of charity and the truths of doctrine and of faith, see above (n. 228, 635); consequently their bodies, when slain, signify that these have been extinguished. But because the good of love and of charity and the truth of doctrine and of faith cannot be extinguished except with those who are in falsities of doctrine and in evils of life, therefore these are meant, since others do not see that the goods of love and the truths of doctrine are extinguished. For every one sees the things which are of the Lord, and thence the things which pertain to heaven and the church, according to the quality of his state, and it is from this that he sees, therefore he cannot see otherwise than in agreement with that quality. Thus he who denies the Lord and His Divine in heaven and in the church does not see them, because he regards them negatively, therefore he does not see the witnesses alive, but their bodies as carcases, that is, he considers the goods of love and truths of doctrine as nothing, consequently also extinguished. The above is evident from the signification of three days and a half, as denoting what is complete, in this case, a complete extinction.

[2] "Three and a half" denotes what is complete, because three signifies an entire period or duration from beginning to end, consequently, where the church is treated of, as in the present case, three and a half signifies even unto its end, and at the same time to a new beginning wherefore it is said that after three days and a half the spirit of life from God entered into them and that they stood upon their feet, which signifies the beginning of a new church after the end of the old. For all the good of love and truth of doctrine is extinguished at the end of the church, but then there is a resuscitation which takes place with those in whom a new church is established by the Lord, which is also signified by the spirit of life which entered into them. A full or complete state is also signified by three days and a half, for the reason that this number has a similar signification to that of the number seven, for it is its half; and a number halved, like a number doubled, has a signification similar to that of the number itself that is halved or doubled; and the number seven signifies all, also what is full and complete, and it is used in reference to what is holy pertaining to heaven and the church. The signification of this number may be seen treated of above (n. 20, 24, 257, 300). That the greater numbers, as they are composed of smaller numbers, have a signification similar to that of the simple numbers from which they arise by multiplication, may be also seen above (n. 430:1-4), and that three signifies an entire period greater or less from beginning to end may be seen above (n. 532).

24. And from the seven spirits. That this signifies the Divine in heaven, is evident from the signification of seven, as being what is full, and thence all, and as being spoken of the holy Divine things which go forth from the Lord (concerning this see above, n. 20); and from the signification of spirits, as being those of whom heaven consists. For they are all called spirits of God, because the spirit of God is the proceeding Divine, or the Divine truth united to the Divine good, in heaven and in the church (concerning this see Arcana Coelestia 9818); and the proceeding Divine, or Divine truth united to Divine good, forms and creates an angel, and thus makes him what he is according to the nature and extent of his reception (as may be seen in the work, Heaven and Hell. n. 7-12). From these considerations it is clear, that the seven spirits of whom more will be said in the following pages, do not mean seven spirits, but all those who are in heaven; just as the seven churches do not mean seven churches, but all who are in truths from good, or who belong to the church (concerning this see above, n. 20). These things being understood, the mystery becomes clear as to what is meant by Jehovah God in the Word; for by Jehovah is meant the Divine as Being (Esse), and by God, the Divine Manifestation (Existere) in heaven. The reason why the Divine which is meant by God, is the Divine Manifestation (Existere) in heaven is, because the Divine in heaven is in many; therefore, in the Hebrew language, God is called Elohim, in the plural, and therefore the angels are called gods, not that they are gods, but because the Divine of the Lord, which is in them, is meant by God. (That in the Word the Lord is called Jehovah from Being (Esse) or Essence, and God from Manifestation (Existere) or Existence, may be seen, Arcana Coelestia 300, 3910, 6905. That the Divine, as Being (Esse) also is Divine Good, and that the Divine Manifestation (Existere) is Divine Truth, see n. 3061, 6280, 6880, 6905, 10579; and in general, that good is being (esse), and truth is the manifestation (existere) thence derived, see n. 5002. That angels are called gods from the reception of Divine truth going forth from the Divine good of the Lord, see n. 4295, 4402, 7268, 7873, 8301, 8192. And that Divine truth united to Divine good in heaven, is called in one phrase Divine truth, may be seen in the work, Heaven and Hell 13, 133, 144.)
