That this signifies grief that it should so perish, is evident from the signification of “seeing the death,” as being to perish; and from the signification of the “child,” as being spiritual truth-explained above. Hence, and from the feeling of despair on account of the desolation of truth, it is manifest that it is interior grief that is within these words.
