'Zoan' and 'Noph' were places in the land of Egypt, and they signified the enlightenment of the natural human from spiritual light. (See Apocalypse Explained 654[50])

In Isaiah 19:13, in the prophecy about Egypt, it says, "the princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Noph are carried away". When their princes are carried away, it means that the enlightenment is lost; it has been falsified.

In Isaiah 30:4, Zoan is mentioned again. Arcana Coelestia 5044 explains its meaning this way: "the truths of wisdom and intelligence from spiritual light in the natural man have become insane falsities.
