1309. 'Lest perhaps we are scattered over the face ¹ of the whole earth' means that otherwise they would not receive recognition. This follows from what is said above, for 'being scattered over the face ¹ of the whole earth' is disappearing from their sight, and so not being accepted and acknowledged.
