8 And behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjaminite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

Verse 8. Whereas the merely natural love of approbation, which is uncertain and contentious, having a perception of truths, and valiant; and which is opposed to good, when evil seems to prosper and conflict is at hand, while yet it appears to favour good in externals, and is therefore, on account of its use, preserved from the punishment of falsity;—-
