Deuteronomium 22:15

Verse 15. Then shall careful inquiry be made by the cardinal introductory truths of the Church into the principles of good and truth from which the affection originated; these shall show whether it was joined to evil or no: [Note. —The elders which sit at the gate seem to signify here the doctrines which discriminate between the things which enter into the mind by examination into the motives from which they spring.]
