2 Samuel 5

Funda

1 And all the tribes of Israel came to David to Hebron and said, saying, Behold us, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2 Both yesterday and the day··before*, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he who caused Israel to go··out and come··in, and Jehovah said to thee, Thou shalt shepherd My people Israel, and thou shalt be for a monarch over Israel.

3 And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and King David cut a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah, and they anointed David as king over Israel.

4 A son of thirty years was David when he became··king, and he reigned forty years.

5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusite dwelling··in the land, and he said to David, saying, Thou shalt not come··in hither, unless thou remove the blind and the lame; saying to himself, David will not come··in hither.

7 And David captured the fort of Zion; it is the city of David.

8 And David said on that day, Whoever smites a Jebusite* and touches the gutter and the lame and the blind, will be hated of the soul of David. Therefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come to the house.

9 And David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built all around from Millo and inward.

10 And David went, walking and becoming great, and Jehovah God of Armies was with him.

11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and craftsmen in wood and craftsmen in stone of the wall, and they built the house for David.

12 And David knew that Jehovah had established him for a king over Israel, and that He had lifted up His kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

13 And David took still more concubines and wives from Jerusalem after he had come from Hebron; and there were··born still more sons and daughters to David.

14 And these are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15 and Ibhar and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

16 and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

17 And the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, and all the Philistines came··up to seek David; and David heard of it and went··down to the fort.

18 And the Philistines came and were extended in the valley of Rephaim.

19 And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go··up unto the Philistines? Wilt Thou give them into my hand? And Jehovah said unto David, Go··up, for giving, I will give the Philistines into thy hand.

20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there and said, Jehovah has broken forth* upon my enemies before me as a breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place, Baal-perazim*.

21 And they forsook their idols there, and David and his men bore them away.

22 And the Philistines yet··again went··up, and were extended in the valley of Rephaim.

23 And David asked of Jehovah, and He said, Thou shalt not go··up; thou shalt go··around behind them and come upon them from over against the mulberry··trees.

24 And it shall be, when thou hearest the voice of marching on the heads of the mulberry··trees, that then thou shalt move··decisively, for then Jehovah has gone··out before thee, to smite the camp of the Philistines.

25 And David did so as Jehovah had commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Gibea until thou come to Gezer.

1 Kings 8

Funda

1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the fathers of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon of Jerusalem, to bring··up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out··of the city of David, it is Zion.

2 And every man of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the festival in the month Ethanim, it is the seventh month.

3 And all the elders of Israel came··in, and the priests lifted··up the ark.

4 And they brought··up the ark of Jehovah and the tent of the congregation, and all the vessels of holiness that were in the tent; and the priests and the Levites brought· them ·up.

5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that had congregated to him were with him before the ark, sacrificing from the flock and herd, which could not be numbered nor counted for multitude.

6 And the priests brought··in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah to its place to the oracle of the house, to the holy of holies, to under the wings of the cherubim.

7 For the cherubim spread their wings to the place of the ark, and the cherubim sheltered over the ark and over its poles from above.

8 And the poles were··long, and the heads of the poles were seen from the holy place before the faces of the oracle; but they were not seen outside; and they are there even··to this day.

9 There was nothing in the ark, only the two tablets of stone which Moses placed there in Horeb*, when Jehovah cut a covenant* with the sons of Israel, when they came··out of the land of Egypt.

10 And it was, when the priests were come··out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of Jehovah.

11 And the priests were· not ·able to stand to minister, before the cloud; for the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah.

12 Then said Solomon, Jehovah has said that He inhabits dense··darkness.

13 Building I have built a house of cohabitation for Thee, an established place for Thee to dwell to eternity.

14 And the king turned· his face ·around and blessed all the assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel stood.

15 And he said, Blessed be Jehovah the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth with David my father, and has with His hand fulfilled it, saying,

16 From the day that I brought··out my people Israel from Egypt, I chose no city out··of all the tribes of Israel, to build a house, for My name to be there; but I chose David to be over My people Israel.

17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

18 And Jehovah said unto David my father, Because it was with thy heart to build a house for My name, thou didst··good for it was with thy heart;

19 only thou shalt not build the house; but thy son who shall go··out from thy loins, he shall build the house for My name.

20 And Jehovah has made His word that He spoke rise··up; and I am risen··up instead of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah has spoken, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

21 And there have I set a place for the ark, where is the covenant of Jehovah, which He cut with our fathers, when He brought· them ·out of the land of Egypt.

22 And Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovah in··the··presence··of all the assembly of Israel, and spread his palms unto the heavens;

23 and he said, O Jehovah, God of Israel, there is no God as Thou, in the heavens from above, and on earth from beneath, who keepest the covenant and the mercy for Thy servants that walk before Thy face with all their heart,

24 that which Thou hast kept for Thy servant David my father, that which Thou hast spoken to him, and didst speak with Thy mouth and with Thy hand, Thou hast fulfilled, as it is this day.

25 And now, O Jehovah, God of Israel, keep unto Thy servant David my father, that which Thou didst speak unto him, saying, There shall not be cut··off unto thee from before Me a man to sit on the throne of Israel; if only thy sons will keep their way, to walk before Me as thou hast walked before Me.

26 And now, O God of Israel, let, I pray, Thy word be··faithful, which Thou didst speak unto Thy servant David my father.

27 For will God truly dwell on the earth? Behold, the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens will not contain Thee. How then this house that I have built?

28 But turn Thou to the prayer of Thy servant, and to his supplication, Jehovah, God, to hearken to the cry and to the prayer which Thy servant prays before Thee today;

29 that Thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, toward the place of which Thou hast said, My name shall be there; to hearken unto the prayer which Thy servant shall pray toward this place.

30 And hearken Thou to the supplication of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place; and hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place and when Thou hearest, pardon.

31 If a man sin against his companion, and an oath be borne upon him to cause him to make··an··oath, and the oath come before Thine altar in this house;

32 and hear Thou in the heavens, and do, and judge Thy servants; to judge as wicked the wicked, to put his way on his head; and to justify the just, to give him according to his justice.

33 When Thy people Israel are stricken down before the enemy, because they have sinned against Thee, and they turn··back unto Thee, and confess Thy name, and pray and ask· Thee ·for··grace in this house:

34 then hear Thou in the heavens, and pardon the sin of Thy people Israel, and return them unto their ground, which Thou gavest unto their fathers.

35 When the heavens are restrained, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against Thee, and they pray toward this place and confess Thy name, and turn··back from their sin, when Thou dost afflict them:

36 then hear Thou in the heavens, and pardon the sin of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel; when Thou didst instruct them in the good way, in which they should walk; and give rain upon Thy land, which Thou hast given to Thy people for an inheritance.

37 If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be scorching, mildew, locust, caterpillar; if it shall be that his enemies besiege him in the land of his gates; any plague, any sickness;

38 every prayer, every supplication that shall be made by any man, by all Thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread his palms toward this house:

39 and hear Thou in the heavens, where Thy dwelling is established, and pardon, and do, and give unto each··man according··to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest; for Thou, Thou alone, knowest the heart of all the sons of man;

40 so··that they may fear Thee all the days that they live on the face of the ground, which Thou gavest to our fathers.

41 And also as to the foreigner, that is not of Thy people Israel, when he shall come from a far-off land for the sake of Thy name;

42 for they shall hear of Thy great name, and of Thy firm hand and of Thine outstretched arm, and shall come, and pray toward this house;

43 hear Thou in the heavens where Thy dwelling is established; and do according··to all which the foreigner calls to Thee, so··that all the peoples of the earth shall know Thy name, to fear Thee, as does Thy people Israel, and that they may know that Thy name is called upon this house which I have built.

44 When Thy people shall go··out to battle against its enemy in the way which Thou shalt send them, and they pray unto Jehovah, the way of the city which Thou hast chosen, and of the house which I have built for Thy name;

45 then hear Thou in the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and do judgment for them.

46 When they sin against Thee—for there is no man that sins not—and Thou be··angry against them, and givest them up before the enemy, and they who take· them ·captive, taking· them ·captive to the land of the enemy, far··off or near;

47 And if they shall return in their heart in the land where they have been taken··captive, and shall return to Thee, and ask··for··grace in the land of those who took· them ·captive, saying, We have sinned and have committed··iniquity, and have acted··wickedly;

48 and shall return unto Thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who have taken· them ·captive, and pray unto Thee the way of their land, which Thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which Thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for Thy name:

49 then hear Thou their prayer and their supplication in the heavens, where Thy dwelling is established, and do judgment;

50 and pardon Thy people, who have sinned against Thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against Thee, and give them compassion before those who took· them ·captive, and have··compassion upon them;

51 for they are Thy people and Thine inheritance, whom Thou broughtest··out from Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron;

52 that Thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of Thy servants, and unto the supplication of Thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all their calling unto Thee.

53 For Thou didst distinguish them for Thyself for an inheritance from among all the peoples of the earth; as Thou didst speak by the hand of Moses Thy servant, when Thou broughtest· our fathers ·out from Egypt, O Lord Jehovih*.

54 And it was, when Solomon had completed praying unto Jehovah all this prayer and supplication, that he arose from before the altar of Jehovah, from stooping··down on his knees, and his palms spread toward the heavens.

55 And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a great voice, saying:

56 Blessed be Jehovah, who has given rest to His people Israel, according··to all that He has spoken; there has not fallen one word of all His good word, which He spoke by the hand of Moses His servant.

57 Jehovah our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; let Him not forsake us nor abandon us;

58 that He may incline our hearts to Him, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments, and His statutes, and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers.

59 And let these my words, with which I have asked··for··grace before Jehovah be near to Jehovah our God by··day and night, that He may do judgment for His servant and judgment for His people Israel, the word of a day in its day,

60 so··that all the peoples of the earth may know that Jehovah, He is the God; there is none else.

61 And let your heart be whole with Jehovah our God, to walk in His statutes, and to keep His commandments, as at this day.

62 And the king and all Israel with him, sacrificed sacrifices before Jehovah.

63 And Solomon sacrificed the sacrifice of peace··offerings, which he sacrificed to Jehovah, twenty and two thousand of the herd, and a hundred and twenty thousand of the flock. And the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of Jehovah.

64 In that day did the king sanctify the midst of the court, that was before the house of Jehovah; for he made there the burnt··offering, and the gift··offering, and the fat of the peace··offerings; for the altar of bronze, which was before Jehovah, was too small to contain the burnt··offering and the gift··offering, and the fat of the peace··offerings.

65 And Solomon made a festival at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the coming··in at Ḥamath even··to the brook of Egypt, before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days, fourteen days.

66 On the eighth day he sent· the people ·away, and they blessed the king, and went to their tents, glad and good of heart on··account··of all the goodness that Jehovah had done to David his servant, and to Israel His people.
