Psalms 41

1 To the victor; a psalm of David.
2 Happy is he who gives··thought to the poor;
in the day of evil, Jehovah will cause· him ·to··escape.

2 3 Jehovah will keep him,
and will make him live;
He shall be made··happy in the land;
and Thou wilt not give· him ·over unto the will* of his enemies.

3 4 Jehovah will sustain him upon the couch of infirmity;
in his sickness, Thou turnest all his bed*.

4 5 I said, O Jehovah, be··gracious··to me;
heal my soul; for I have sinned against Thee.

5 6 My enemies say evil against me:
When will he die and his name perish?

6 7 And if he come to see me,
he speaks vanity;
his heart brings··together iniquity to itself;
he goes··out to the street, he speaks it.

7 8 All who hate me whisper together against me;
against me, they think evil toward me.

8 9 The word of Belial is poured into him;
and now that he lies down, he shall not rise··up again.

9 10 Even the man at peace with me*,
he in whom I trusted,
who did eat of my bread,
has made· his heel ·great upon me.

10 11 But Thou, O Jehovah, be··gracious··to me,
and raise· me ·up, that I may repay to them.

11 12 By this I know that Thou delightest in me,
that my enemy does not shout over me.

12 13 And as for me, Thou upholdest me in my integrity,
and settest· me ·up before Thee to eternity.

13 14 Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, from age even··to age;
amen and amen.
