That this signifies unlawful conjunction, is evident from the signification of “lying with a virgin not betrothed,” as being an unlawful conjunction; for by “being betrothed” is signified the conjunction of the internal man; but by “lying with” is signified the conjunction of the external man (of which just above, n. 9182).
