1 Не принимай пустаго слуха, не давай руки твоей беззаконнику, чтобы быть свидјтелемъ въ пользу преступленія.

2 Не слјдуй множеству, чтобы дјлать зло, и не суди тяжбы, увлекаясь вслјдъ за многими, чтобы рјшить превратно.

3 И нищему не благопріятствуй въ тяжбј его.

4 Если найдешь вола непріятеля твоего, или осла его, заблудившагося: приведи его къ нему.

5 Если увидишь, что оселъ врага твоего упалъ подъ ношею своею: то не оставляй его одного развьючивать; развьючь вмјстј съ нимъ.

6 Не суди превратно тяжбы нищаго твоего.

7 Удаляйся отъ всякой лжи, и не умерщвляй невиннаго и праваго; ибо я не извиню беззаконника.

8 Даровъ не принимай; ибо дары слјпыми дјлаютъ зрячихъ, и превращаютъ дјло правыхъ.

9 Пришельца не обижай: вы знаете, что на душј у пришельца; потому что сами были пришельцами въ землј Египетской.

10 Шесть лјтъ засјвай землю твою, и собирай произведенія ея.

11 А въ седьмой оставляй ее, давай ей свободу, чтобы питались убогіе изъ твоего народа, а остатками послј нихъ питались звјри полевые. Такъ же поступай съ виноградникомъ твоимъ, и съ маслиною твоею.

12 Шесть дней дјлай дјла свои, а въ седьмой день покойся, чтобы отдохнулъ волъ твой и оселъ твой, и успокоился сынъ рабы твоей и пришлецъ.

13 Соблюдайте все, что Я сказалъ вамъ; и имени другихъ боговъ не упоминайте, чтобъ не слышать его изъ устъ твоихъ.

14 Три раза въ году празднуй Мнј.

15 Наблюдай праздникъ опрјсноковъ; семь дней јшь прјсный хлјбъ, какъ Я повелјлъ тебј, въ извјстное время мјсяца Авива; ибо въ ономъ ты вышелъ изъ Египта, и пусть не являются предъ лице Мое съ пустыми руками.

16 Наблюдай также праздникъ жатвы, первыхъ плодовъ труда твоего, какіе ты сјялъ на полј; и праздникъ собиранія плодовъ въ концј года, когда уберешь съ поля работу твою.

17 Три раза въ году долженъ являться весь мужескій полъ твой предъ лице Господа Іеговы.

18 Не изливай крови жертвы Моей на квасное, и тукъ отъ праздника Моего не долженъ переночевать до утра.

19 Первые плоды земли твоей приноси въ домъ Іеговы, Бога твоего. Не вари козленка въ молокј матери его.

20 Вотъ, Я посылаю предъ тобою Ангела хранить тебя на пути, и ввести тебя въ то мјсто, которое Я приготовилъ.

21 Будь остороженъ въ присутствіи его, и слушай гласа его; не упорствуй противъ него; потому, что онъ не потерпитъ вашей непокорности; ибо имя Мое въ немъ.

22 Если ты будешь слушать гласа его, и исполнять все, что ни скажу; то врагомъ буду враговъ твоихъ, и противникомъ противниковъ твоихъ.

23 Ибо Ангелъ Мой пойдетъ предъ тобою, и поведетъ тебя къ Аморреямъ, и Хеттеямъ, и Ферезеямъ, и Хиввеямъ, и Іевусеямъ, и истреблю ихъ.

24 Не поклоняйся богамъ ихъ, и не служи имъ; не подражай дјламъ ихъ, но до конца истреби ихъ, и сокруши столпы ихъ.

25 Служите Іеговј Богу вашему; и Онъ благословитъ хлјбъ твой и воды твои, и отвращу отъ васъ болјзни.

26 Не будетъ преждевременно рождающихъ и безплодныхъ въ землј твоей: число дней твоихъ сдјлаю полное.

27 Ужасъ Мой пошлю предъ тобою, и устрашу всякой народъ, къ которому ты ни придешь, и буду обращать тебј тылъ всјхъ враговъ твоихъ.

28 Пошлю предъ тобою шершней, и они погонятъ отъ лица твоего Хиввеевъ, Хананеевъ и Хеттеевъ.

29 Не выгоню ихъ отъ лица твоего въ одинъ годъ, чтобы земля не сдјлалась пуста, и не усилились противъ тебя звјри полевые.

30 Мало-по-малу буду прогонять ихъ отъ тебя, пока ты размножишься, и наслјдуешь сію землю.

31 Проведу предјлы твои отъ моря Чермнаго до моря Филистимскаго, и отъ пустыни до великой рјки: ибо предамъ въ руки ваши жителей сей земли, и прогонишь ихъ отъ лица твоего.

32 Не заключай союза ни съ ними, ни съ ихъ богами.

33 Не должны они жить въ землј твоей, чтобы они не ввели тебя въ грјхъ противъ Меня; ибо если ты будешь служить богамъ ихъ: то сие будетъ тебј сјтію.

9331. 'And I will send the hornet before you' means the dread felt by those who are steeped in falsities arising from evil. This is clear from the meaning of 'hornets' as falsities that are stinging and lethal and therefore cause feelings of dread. Terror is used in reference to those immersed in evils, and dread to those steeped in falsities; regarding the terror felt by the former, see above in 9327. The reason why the dread felt by those steeped in falsities is meant by 'hornets' is that these are winged creatures equipped with stings with which they can administer venomous pricks. For living creatures both great and small mean such things as compose human affections, that is, such as are connected with the will, or else they mean such things as compose human thoughts, that is, such as are connected with the understanding. For everything without exception in the human being has connection either with his will or with his understanding. Things that have no connection with one or the other do not exist in the human being, and so are not part of the human being. Creatures that walk and also ones that creep mean affections in both senses, and so mean forms of good or else evils since these belong to the affections, whereas flying creatures, including insects with wings, mean such things as belong to thought in both senses, and so mean truths or else falsities since these belong to thoughts.

Living creatures mean forms of good or else evils, see 9280. Ones that creep mean forms of good or else evils on the external level of the senses, 746, 909, 994. Flying creatures mean truths or falsities, 40, 745, 776, 778, 866, 911, 988, 3219, 5149, 7441. Consequently insects with wings mean the same things, but as they exist on the outermost levels of the human mind.

[2] But falsities, which are the subject now, are of many kinds. There are falsities which do no harm, there are falsities which do slight harm and those which do serious harm, and there are also those which are lethal. What kind they are is recognized from the evils they arise from. Every falsity that is harmful or that is lethal owes its existence to evil; for falsity arising from evil is evil revealing itself in an outward form. In the next life also, when such falsities are represented visually, they are seen as swarms of filthy insects and flying creatures, a terrifying sight that is determined by the type of evil from which the falsities derive. From all this it is evident why it is that the dread felt by those steeped in falsities arising from evil is meant by 'hornets'. Similarly in Deuteronomy,

Jehovah your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you have perished. Deuteronomy 7:20.

[3] Throughout the Word various types of insects are mentioned, and wherever they are mentioned they mean falsities or evils in the outermost levels of the human mind, or the external level of the senses. These evils and falsities have their origin in the illusions of the senses and in various bodily pleasures and appetites, which mislead by means of their allurements and by outward appearances, and cause reason to assent to and so become immersed in falsities arising from evil. This type of falsities is meant by 'the noxious flying insects' of Egypt, see 7441, and likewise by 'the locusts' there, 7643. By 'the frogs' of Egypt reasonings arising from falsities are meant, 7351, 7352, 7384; by 'the lice' there evils of the same kind are meant, 7419; and by 'worms' falsities that devour and torment, 8481.

[4] Such evils and falsities are also meant by the various types of insects referred to in the following places: In Isaiah,

It will happen on that day, that Jehovah will whistle for the fly that is in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Asshur. They will come and all of them will rest in the river of desolations, and in the clefts of the rocks, and in all bushes. Isaiah 7:18-19.

This refers to the Lord's Coming, and to the state of the Church then. 'The fly in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt' is falsity on the outermost levels of the human mind, that is, on the external level of the senses, 7441. 'The bee in the land of Asshur' is falsity perverting reasonings in the mind; for 'Asshur' means reasoning, 1186. 'The river of desolations' is falsity reigning everywhere; 'the clefts of the rocks' are the truths of faith lying in obscurity, because they have been removed from the light of heaven, 8581 (end); and 'bushes' are similar but newly developing truths, 2682.

[5] In Amos,

I struck you with blight and mildew; your very many gardens, and your vineyards, and your fig trees, and your olive trees the caterpillar (eruca) devoured. Amos 4:9.

In Joel,

What the caterpillar (eruca) has left the locust will devour, and what the locust has left the beetle (melolontha) will devour, and what the beetle has left the bruchus 1 will devour. Awake, you drunkards; and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the new wine that has been cut off from your mouth. Joel 1:4-5.

In the same prophet,

The threshing-floors are full of clean grain; the presses overflow with new wine and oil. And I will recompense for you the years that the locust has consumed, the beetle (melolontha), and the bruchus, and the caterpillar (eruca), My great army which I sent among you. Joel 2:24-25.

Here falsities and evils on the outermost levels or the external level of the senses of a member of the Church are meant by these types of insects, as is evident from the specific details in these quotations; for they refer to the perversion of the Church's truth and good. What 'the locust' and what 'the bruchus' mean may be seen in 7643; and the fact that the Church's forms of good and its truths in general are meant by 'gardens', 'vineyards', 'fig trees', 'olive trees', 'wine', and 'new wine', which are destroyed by such creatures, has been shown often in explanations.

[6] In David,

He caused frogs to crawl forth onto their land, into the chambers of their kings. He spoke, that a swarm might come, lice in all their borders. Psalms 105:30-31.

This refers to Egypt. What is meant by 'frogs' there, see 7351, 7352, 7384; and what by 'lice', 7419. In Moses,

You will plant and dress vineyards, but not drink wine nor gather [the fruit]; for the worm will eat it. Deuteronomy 28:39.

'The worm' stands for all such falsity and evil in general.

[7] In Isaiah,

Do not fear the reproach of man (homo), and do not be dismayed by their slanders. For the moth will devour them as a garment, and the grub will devour them as wool. Isaiah 51:7-8.

'The moth' stands for falsities on the outermost levels of the human mind, and 'the grub' for evils there. For 'a garment' which the moth will devour means the lower or more external truths that belong to the sensory level of the human mind, 2576, 5248, 6377, 6918, 9158, 9212; and 'wool' which the grub will devour means the lower or more external forms of good that belong to the sensory level of the human mind, as is evident from many places in the Word, and also from the meaning of 'a sheep', from which wool is obtained, as the good of charity, 4169. What exactly are the outermost levels of the natural man, which are called those of the senses, and what they are like, see 4009, 5077, 5081, 5084, 5089, 5094, 5125, 5128, 5580, 5767, 5774, 6183, 6201, 6310-6318, 6564, 6598, 6612, 6614, 6622, 6624, 6844, 6845, 6948, 6949, 7442, 7645, 7693, 9212, 9216.

776. '[Every] bird according to its kind' means all spiritual truth, 'flying things' means natural truth, and 'winged thing' sensory truth. This is clear from what has been stated and shown already about birds, as in 40. The most ancient people likened man's thoughts to birds, for in relation to things of the will, thoughts are like birds. Since bird, flying thing, and winged thing are mentioned here, and come consecutively in the way that intellectual concepts, rational concepts, and sensory impressions do in man, and to prevent anyone doubting that this is what they mean, let other places from the Word of a confirmatory nature be quoted, from which as well it will be evident that 'beasts' means such things as have been stated.

[2] In David,

You have given Him dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under His feet, flocks and all cattle, and also the beasts of the fields, the flying things of the air, 1 and the fish of the sea. Psalms 8:6-8.

This refers to the Lord, whose dominion over man and over what belongs to man is described in this fashion. If this were not so, what would 'dominion over beasts and birds' really be? In the same author,

Fruit tree and all cedars, wild animal and every beast, creeping thing and flying thing - they shall glorify the name of Jehovah. Psalms 148:9-10, 13.

'Fruit tree' is the celestial man, 'cedar' the spiritual man, 'wild animal and beast and creeping thing' the goods of these kinds of man, as in the present context. 'Flying thing' is their truths from which they are able to glorify the name of Jehovah. This a wild animal, a beast, a creeping thing, or a flying thing can never do. In secular literature such statements can be used as hyperbole, but in the Word of the Lord they are never just hyperbole but meaningful signs and representatives.

[3] In Ezekiel,

They start to tremble before Me - the fish of the sea, and the birds of the air, 2 and the wild animals of the field, and every creeping thing creeping over the ground, and every man that is on the face 3 of the ground. Ezekiel 38:20.

The fact that 'beasts' and 'birds' here have such meanings is quite clear, for what would Jehovah's glory be if fish, birds, and beasts were to start to tremble? Could anyone think that such utterances are holy if they did not embody holy things within them? In Jeremiah,

I looked, and behold, there was no man; all the birds of the air 2 had fled. Jeremiah 4:15.

This stands for all good and truth. Here 'man' stands as well for good that stems from love. In the same prophet,

They have been laid waste so that no man passes through, neither do men hear the voice of the herd. From the birds of the air 2 down to beasts, they have scattered, they have gone away. Jeremiah 9:10.

This in a similar way stands for the departure of all truth and good.

[4] In the same prophet,

How long will the land mourn and the grass of every field wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, the beasts and the birds have perished, for men said, He will not see our latter end. Jeremiah 11:4.

Here 'beasts' stands for goods, and 'birds' for truths, which perished. In Zephaniah,

I will consume man and beast, I will consume the birds of the air 2 and the fish of the sea, and the stumbling-blocks with the wicked; and I will cut off mankind from the face 4 of the ground. Zephaniah 1:3.

Here 'man and beast' stands for the things which belong to love and good deriving from love, 'the birds of the air 2 and the fish of the sea' for those which belong to the understanding and so to truth. These are called 'stumbling-blocks' because for wicked people it is goods and truths, not beasts and birds, that are stumbling-blocks. These are also plainly referred to as man's. In David,

The trees of Jehovah are watered abundantly, and the cedars of Lebanon which He planted. In them flying things build their nests. Psalms 104:16-17.

'The trees of Jehovah and the cedars of Lebanon' stands for spiritual man, 'flying things' for his rational or natural truths which are like 'nests'. What is more, 'the birds build nests in the branches' was a common saying by which people meant truths, as in Ezekiel,

[5] On the mountain height of Israel I will plant it, and it will bring forth a branch, and bear fruit, and it will become a noble cedar, and under it will dwell every flying thing of every sort, 5 in the shade of its branches they will dwell. Ezekiel 17:23.

This stands for the Church among gentiles which was spiritual and which is 'a noble cedar'. 'Birds of every sort' 5 stands for truths of every kind. In the same prophet,

In its branches all the birds of the air 2 made their nests, and under its branches every wild animal of the field gave birth, and in its shadow dwelt all great nations. Ezekiel 31:6.

This refers to Asshur, which is the spiritual Church and is called 'a cedar'. 'Birds of the air' 2 stands for its truths, 'beasts' for its goods.

[6] In Daniel,

Its branch was fair, and its fruit much, and food for all was on it. The beast of the field had shade under it, and in its branches dwelt the flying things of the air' 1 Daniel 4:12, 11.

Here 'beast' stands for goods, and 'flying thing of the air' 1 for truths. This may become clear to anyone, for what else would bird and beast dwelling there really be? The same applies to what the Lord said, The kingdom of God is like a grain of mustard seed, which someone took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a big tree so that the birds of the air 1 dwelt in its branches. Luke 13:19; Matthew 13:32; Mark 4:32.
