Και εζησεν ο Σερουχ τριακοντα ετη, και εγεννησε τον Ναχωρ·
1289. Verse 2 And so it was that, when they travelled away from the east they found a valley in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. 'When they travelled away from the east' means when they departed from charity, 'the east' being charity from the Lord. 'They found a valley in the land of Shinar' means that worship became more unclean and unholy. 'And they dwelt there' means the life [that resulted].

Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.
