32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves; because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

5616. 'Israel their father said to them' means a perception received from spiritual good. This is clear from the meaning of 'saying' in the historical narratives of the Word as perception; and from the representation of 'Israel' as spiritual good, both of which matters are dealt with above in 5595. The word 'father' is used because the truths that his sons represent spring from that good as their father.
