Aqui estamos nós no século XXI. Nós sabemos que o universo é um lugar enorme. Estamos apenas a transbordar de conhecimento científico. Mas como estamos indo com as idéias ainda maiores? As nossas sociedades humanas parecem estar a apagá-las ou a ignorá-las - talvez pensemos que estamos demasiado ocupados para elas.

Aqui no site do Novo Estudo Bíblico Cristão, nós vamos inverter a tendência. Queremos explorar as grandes ideias que nos dão um enquadramento para vivermos melhor. Aqui está um começo de uma lista de grandes ideias a partir de uma nova perspectiva cristã. Para cada idéia, há uma nota de rodapé que lista algumas referências nos trabalhos teológicos da Swedenborg:

1. Deus existe. Um só Deus, que criou e sustenta o universo inteiro em todas as suas dimensões, espirituais e físicas. ¹

2. A essência de Deus é o próprio amor. É a força que conduz tudo. ²

3. A essência de Deus surge, isto é, existe, na e através da criação. ³

4. Existem níveis, ou graus, de criação - desde os espirituais, que não podemos detectar com nossos sentidos físicos ou sensores, até o nível do universo físico, onde está a maior parte de nossa consciência quando estamos vivos aqui. ⁴

5. O universo criado emana de Deus, e é sustentado por Deus, mas de uma forma importante é separado de Deus. Ele quer que seja separado, para que a liberdade possa existir. ⁵

6. Deus opera a partir do amor, através da sabedoria - desejando coisas boas, e compreendendo como realizá-las. ⁶

7. O nível físico da criação existe para proporcionar aos seres humanos uma oportunidade de escolher em liberdade, com racionalidade, se devem ou não reconhecer e cooperar com Deus. ⁷

8. Deus provê a todas as pessoas em toda parte, independentemente da sua religião, a liberdade de escolher viver uma vida de amor a Deus e ao próximo. ⁸

9. Deus ama a todos. Ele sabe que a verdadeira felicidade só vem quando somos altruístas; quando somos verdadeiramente motivados por um amor ao Senhor que se fundamenta no amor ao próximo. Ele procura liderar a todos, mas não nos vai forçar a seguir contra a nossa vontade. ⁹

10. Deus não nos julga. Ele nos diz o que é bom, e o que é mau, e flui em nossas mentes para nos conduzir em direção ao bem. No entanto, somos livres para rejeitar a sua liderança, e em vez disso optamos por nos amar mais. Dia após dia, criamos hábitos de generosidade ou de egoísmo, e vivemos uma vida de acordo com esses hábitos. Esses hábitos tornam-se o verdadeiro "nós", o nosso amor dominante. ¹⁰

11. Nossos corpos físicos morrem eventualmente, mas a parte espiritual da nossa mente continua. Já está operando em um plano espiritual, mas nossa consciência muda - para que nos tornemos plenamente conscientes da realidade espiritual. ¹¹

169. Throughout the created universe, in its largest and smallest instances alike, we find these three--purpose, means, and result. The reason we find them in the largest and smallest instances of the created universe is that these three are in God the Creator, who is the Lord from eternity. Since he is infinite, though, and since in one who is infinite there are infinite things in a distinguishable oneness (as explained in 17-22 above), these three are a distinguishable oneness in him and in the infinite things that belong to him. This is why the universe, being created from his reality and (if we look at its functions) being an image of him, retains these three in each of its constituent details.

65. The uses of all things that have been created ascend by degrees from the lowest created forms to mankind, and through mankind to God the Creator from whom they originate. The lowest created forms are, as we said above, each and every constituent of the mineral kingdom, which are substances of various kinds, composed of stony, saline, oily, mineral and metallic materials, and covered with soil resulting from plant and animal matter disintegrating into a fine dust. In these lie the end in all uses that originate from life, and also their beginning. The end in all uses is the endeavor to effect them, and their beginning is the force acting as a result of that endeavor. These are the end in and the beginning of the uses of the mineral kingdom.

[2] Intermediate created forms are each and every constituent of the plant kingdom. These are grasses and herbs of every kind, shrubs and bushes of every kind, and trees of every kind. Their uses exist to serve each and every constituent of the animal kingdom, both the lower ones and the higher. They nourish these, gratify them, and enliven them. They nourish their bodies with their substances, gratify their senses with their taste, smell and beauty, and enliven their affections. An endeavor to serve in these ways is present in them also from life.

[3] The highest created forms are each and every constituent of the animal kingdom. The lowest forms in it are called worms and insects, the intermediate ones birds and beasts, and the highest ones human beings. For every kingdom has in it its lowest, intermediate, and highest constituents, the lowest existing to serve the intermediate, and the intermediate existing to serve the highest.

Thus do the uses of all things that have been created ascend in turn from the lowest created forms to mankind, which is the highest in order.
