When we die, we initially come into a spiritual place that Swedenborg called "the world of spirits". It's a sort of processing center... a place where we live while we sort out our spiritual life. Gradually, the main love that motivates us will become apparent, whether it is selfish or unselfish. External pretences can no longer be sustained. We'll gravitate towards the things we love to do, and, and - always according to divine order - we are prepared for coming into heaven or hell.
The world of spirits is also part of the "stack" of spiritual connections which exist from the Divine through the heavens and finally to us in the physical world now, through which the Lord's love and wisdom flow and operate.
