1302. Genesis 11:4. And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its head in the sky; and let us make ourselves a name, to keep from being scattered over the face of the whole earth."
And they said means that it happened. Let us build ourselves a city and a tower means that they made up their own doctrine and worship; a city is doctrine, and a tower is self-worship. With its head in the sky means with the eventual purpose of controlling what goes on in heaven. And let us make ourselves a name means so as to gain from this a reputation for power. To keep from being scattered over the face of the whole earth means that otherwise they would not be acknowledged.
