Studie

   

1 Tada Isusa odvede Duh u pustinju da Ga đavo kuša.

2 I postivši se dana četrdeset i noći četrdeset, naposletku ogladne.

3 I pristupi k Njemu kušač i reče: Ako si Sin Božji, reci da kamenje ovo hlebovi postanu.

4 A On odgovori i reče: Pisano je: Ne živi čovek o samom hlebu, no o svakoj reči koja izlazi iz usta Božjih.

5 Tada odvede Ga đavo u sveti grad i postavi Ga navrh crkve;

6 Pa Mu reče: Ako si Sin Božji, skoči dole, jer u pismu stoji da će anđelima svojim zapovediti za tebe, i uzeće te na ruke, da gde ne zapneš za kamen nogom svojom.

7 A Isus reče njemu: Ali i to stoji napisano: Nemoj kušati Gospoda Boga svog.

8 Opet Ga uze đavo i odvede Ga na goru vrlo visoku, i pokaza Mu sva carstva ovog sveta i slavu njihovu;

9 I reče Mu: Sve ovo daću tebi ako padneš i pokloniš mi se.

10 Tada reče njemu Isus: Idi od mene, sotono; jer stoji napisano: Gospodu Bogu svom poklanjaj se i Njemu jedino služi.

11 Tada ostavi Ga đavo, i gle, anđeli pristupiše i služahu Mu.

12 A kad ču Isus da je Jovan predan, otide u Galileju.

13 I ostavivši Nazaret dođe i namesti se u Kapernaumu primorskom na međi Zavulonovoj i Neftalimovoj.

14 Da se zbude šta je rekao Isaija prorok govoreći:

15 Zemlja Zavulonova i zemlja Neftalimova, na putu k moru s one strane Jordana, Galileja neznabožačka.

16 Ljudi koji sede u tami, videše videlo veliko, i onima što sede na strani i u senu smrtnom, zasvetli videlo.

17 Otada poče Isus učiti i govoriti: Pokajte se, jer se približi carstvo nebesko.

18 I idući pokraj mora galilejskog vide dva brata, Simona, koji se zove Petar, i Andriju brata njegovog, gde meću mreže u more, jer behu ribari.

19 I reče im: Hajdete za mnom, i učiniću vas lovcima ljudskim.

20 A oni taj čas ostaviše mreže i za Njim otidoše.

21 I otišavši odatle vide druga dva brata, Jakova Zevedejevog, i Jovana brata njegovog, u lađi sa Zevedejem ocem njihovim gde krpe mreže svoje, i pozva ih.

22 A oni taj čas ostaviše lađu i oca svog i za Njim otidoše.

23 I prohođaše po svoj Galileji Isus učeći po zbornicama njihovim, i propovedajući jevanđelje o carstvu, i isceljujući svaku bolest i svaku nemoćpo ljudima.

24 I otide glas o Njemu po svoj Siriji i privedoše Mu sve bolesne od različnih bolesti i s različnim mukama, i besne, i mesečnjake, i uzete, i isceli ih.

25 I za Njim iđaše naroda mnogo iz Galileje, i iz Deset Gradova, i iz Jerusalima, i Judeje, i ispreko Jordana.

17. That no one can do any good that is good of himself is something the Lord teaches in John:

A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. (John 3:27)

Also in John:

He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit” means that all good comes from the Lord. Fruit means goodness. “Without Me you can do nothing” means that no one can do good of himself.

People who believe in the Lord and do good from Him are called “sons of light” (John 12:36, Luke 16:8), “sons of the wedding” (Mark 2:19), “sons of the resurrection” (Luke 20:36), “sons of God” (John 1:12), and “born of God” (John 1:13). We are told that “they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). That the Lord will make His abode with them (John 14:23). That they have faith in God (Mark 11:22). That their deeds are done from God (John 3:21).

These tenets are summed up in the following words:

As many as received (Jesus), to them He gave the power to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13) To believe in the name of the Son of God is to believe the Word and live in accordance with it. The will of the flesh is the native character of a person’s will, which in itself is evil, and the will of man is the native character of his intellect, which in itself is falsity springing from evil. People born of these are those who will and act, and think and speak, in accord with their native self. People born of God are those who do these in obedience to the Lord.

In sum, good is not good that originates from man, but good is good that originates from the Lord.
