2 и ты, сын человеческий, подними плач о Тире

3 и скажи Тиру, поселившемуся на выступах в море, торгующему с народами на многих островах: так говорит Господь Бог: Тир! ты говоришь: „я совершенство красоты!"

4 Пределы твои в сердце морей; строители твои усовершили красотутвою:

5 из Сенирских кипарисов устроили все помосты твои; брали с Ливанакедр, чтобы сделать на тебе мачты;

6 из дубов Васанских делали весла твои; скамьи твои делали из букового дерева, с оправою из слоновой кости с островов Киттимских;

7 узорчатые полотна из Египта употреблялись на паруса твои и служили флагом; голубого и пурпурового цвета ткани с островов Елисы были покрывалом твоим.

8 Жители Сидона и Арвада были у тебя гребцами; свои знатоки были у тебя, Тир; они были у тебя кормчими.

9 Старшие из Гевала и знатоки его были у тебя, чтобы заделывать пробоины твои. Всякие морские корабли и корабельщики их находились у тебя для производства торговли твоей.

12 Фарсис, торговец твой, по множеству всякого богатства, платил за товары твои серебром, железом, свинцом и оловом.

13 Иаван, Фувал и Мешех торговали с тобою, выменивая товары твои надуши человеческие и медную посуду.

14 Из дома Фогарма за товары твои доставляли тебе лошадей и строевыхконей и лошаков.

15 Сыны Дедана торговали с тобою; многие острова производили с тобою мену, в уплату тебе доставляли слоновую кость и черное дерево.

16 По причине большого торгового производства твоего торговали с тобою Арамеяне; за товары твои они платили карбункулами, тканями пурпуровыми, узорчатыми, и виссонами, и кораллами, и рубинами.

17 Иудея и земля Израилева торговали с тобою; за товар твой платилипшеницею Миннифскою и сластями, и медом, и деревянным маслом, и бальзамом.

18 Дамаск, по причине большого торгового производства твоего, по изобилию всякого богатства, торговал с тобою вином Хелбонским и белою шерстью.

19 Дан и Иаван из Узала платили тебе за товары твоивыделанным железом; кассия и благовонная трость шли на обмен тебе.

20 Дедан торговал с тобою драгоценными попонами для верховой езды.

21 Аравия и все князья Кидарские производили мену с тобою: ягнят и баранов и козлов променивали тебе.

22 Купцы из Савы и Раемы торговали с тобою всякими лучшими благовониями и всякими дорогими камнями, и золотом платили за товары твои.

23 Харан и Хане и Еден, купцы Савейские, Ассур и Хилмад торговали с тобою.

24 Они торговали с тобою драгоценными одеждами, шелковыми и узорчатыми материями, которые они привозили на твои рынки в дорогих ящиках, сделанных из кедра и хорошо упакованных.

25 Фарсисские корабли были твоими караванами в твоей торговле, и ты сделался богатым и весьма славным среди морей.

26 Гребцы твои завели тебя в большие воды; восточный ветер разбил тебя среди морей.

27 Богатство твое и товары твои, все склады твои, корабельщики твои и кормчие твои, заделывавшие пробоины твои и распоряжавшиеся торговлею твоею, и все ратники твои, какие у тебя были, и всемножество народа в тебе, в день падения твоего упадет в сердце морей.

28 От вопля кормчих твоих содрогнутся окрестности.

29 И с кораблей своих сойдут все гребцы, корабельщики, все кормчиеморя, и станут на землю;

30 и зарыдают о тебе громким голосом, и горько застенают, посыпавпеплом головы свои и валяясь во прахе;

31 и остригут по тебе волосы догола, и опояшутся вретищами, и заплачут о тебе от душевной скорби горьким плачем;

32 и в сетовании своем поднимут плачевную песнь о тебе, и так зарыдают о тебе: „кто как Тир, так разрушенный посреди моря!

33 Когда приходили с морей товары твои, ты насыщал многие народы;множеством богатства твоего и торговлею твоею обогащал царей земли.

34 А когда ты разбит морями в пучине вод, товары твои и все толпившееся в тебе упало.

35 Все обитатели островов ужаснулись о тебе, и цари их содрогнулись, изменились в лицах.

36 Торговцы других народов свистнули о тебе; ты сделался ужасом, – и не будет тебя вовеки".

110. Which is in the midst of the paradise of God, signifies that all the knowledges of good and truth in heaven and in the church look thereto and proceed therefrom. This is evident from the signification of "the midst," as being the center to which all things that are round about look and from which they proceed (of which above, n. 97 [1-2]) and from the signification of "paradise," as being the knowledges of good and truth and intelligence therefrom (Arcana Coelestia 100, 108, 1588, 2702, 3220); and because these are signified by "paradise," therefore by the "paradise of God" heaven is signified, and as heaven, so also the church is signified, for the church is the Lord's heaven on the earth. Heaven and the church are called the "paradise of God," because the Lord is in the midst of them, and from Him is all intelligence and wisdom. Since it has not been known heretofore that all things in the Word are written by correspondences, consequently that there are spiritual things in every particular that is mentioned therein, it is believed that by the "paradise" treated of in the second chapter of Genesis, a paradisal garden is meant. But no earthly paradise is there meant, but the heavenly paradise which those possess who are in intelligence and wisdom from the knowledges of good and truth (See above, n. 109); and in the work on Heaven and Hell 176, 185).

[2] From this it can be seen not only what is signified by the "paradise" or "garden in Eden," but also by the "paradises" or "gardens of God" elsewhere in the Word, as in Isaiah:

Jehovah shall comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places, even that He may make her wilderness into Eden, and her desert into a garden of Jehovah; joy and gladness shall be found therein (Isaiah 51:3).

In Ezekiel:

Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering (Ezekiel 28:13).

These things are said of Tyre, because by "Tyre" in the Word a church that is in the knowledges of truth and good and in intelligence therefrom is signified (See Arcana Coelestia 1201); its intelligence therefrom is "Eden, the garden of God," likewise "the precious stone" from which is its "covering" (See n. 114, 9863, 9865, 9868, 9873). In the same:

Behold Asshur a cedar in Lebanon. The cedars have not hid it in the garden of God; nor was any tree in the garden of God equal to it in beauty. I have made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches; and all the trees of Eden in the garden of God envied it (Ezekiel 31:3, 8, 31:8-9).

By "Asshur" in the Word those who have become rational by the knowledges of good and truth, thus whose minds are illustrated from heaven, are meant. (That "Asshur" is the rational of man, see Arcana Coelestia 119, 1186.)

[3] Something shall now be said to explain how it is to be understood that all knowledges of good and truth look to the good of love to the Lord and proceed therefrom, which is the significance of these words: "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of God." The good of love to the Lord is the Lord Himself, since the Lord is in the good of His love with man, spirit, and angel. That all knowledges of good and truth look thereto, or to the Lord, is known in the Christian church; for the doctrine of the church teaches that there is no salvation apart from the Lord, and also that all salvation is in the Lord.

The knowledges of good and truth, or doctrinals from the Word, teach how man can come to God and be conjoined to Him. (That no one can be conjoined to God except from the Lord and in the Lord, see The Doctrine of the New Jerusalem 283, 296.) From this it can be seen that all things taught by the church from the Word look to the Lord and to love to Him, as the end to which [ad quem]. That all knowledges of good and truth, or all doctrinals from the Word, proceed from the Lord is also known in the church, for it is there taught that everything of love and everything of faith is from heaven, and that nothing is from man; and that no one can love God and believe in Him from himself. To love God and to believe in Him involve all things that the church teaches, called doctrinals and knowledges, since from these is God loved and believed in. There is no love and faith without previous knowledges; for without knowledges man would be empty.

[4] From this it follows that as everything of love and of faith proceeds from the Lord, so do all knowledges of good and truth which make and form love and faith. Because all knowledges of good and truth look to the Lord, and proceed from Him, and this is what is signified by "the tree of life in the midst of the paradise of God," therefore all the trees in paradise are called "trees of life" and "trees of Jehovah;" in Revelation "trees of life":

In the midst of the street and of the river (flowing out from the throne of God and of the Lamb) on this side and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve fruits (Revelation 22:2).

In David they are called "trees of Jehovah":

The trees of Jehovah are satisfied, the cedars of Lebanon which He hath planted (Psalms 104:16).

From this also it is clear that by the "tree of life in the midst of paradise" is meant every tree there, in other words, every man in the midst of whom, that is, in whom is the Lord. From what has been shown here and in the preceding article, what is signified by the words, "The Lord will give to him that overcometh to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God," may be learned.

4552. 'And Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem' means an eternal casting away. This is clear from the meaning of 'hiding' as casting away and burying as dead, and from the meaning of 'under the oak' as for ever, for being a tree that lives to a very great age, 'the oak' meant, when anything was hidden under it, that which is everlasting. It also had the meaning of that which is tangled up, and above all that which is deceptive and false, because compared with everything above it the lowest part of the natural is tangled up and deceptive, inasmuch as it relies on the physical senses, and so on deceptive ideas, for its knowledge and delight. Specifically 'the oak' means the lowest part of the natural, and therefore in the good sense means the truths and goods there, and in the contrary sense the evils and falsities there.

[2] Furthermore, when falsities are being removed in the case of a regenerate person they are cast away to the lowest part of the natural. For this reason when anyone has become mature in judgement and clear-sighted, and especially when he has become intelligent and wise, those things in the natural seem to be far removed from the interior sight he has. For with one who is regenerate truths are present within the inmost part of his natural alongside the good there, which is like a small sun. Other kinds of truths which are dependent on these are distanced from them by, so to speak, their relationships by blood or through marriage to good. Deceptive truths exist in the more outlying parts, and falsities are cast away to the outermost parts. These remain with a person for ever, arranged - when he allows himself to be led by the Lord - into the kind of order that has just been described. For that ordering is a heavenly one since heaven itself is ordered in a similar way. But when a person does not allow himself to be led by the Lord but by evil, a contrary ordering exists. In his case evil together with falsities is at the centre; truths have then been cast away to the surrounding parts, and actual Divine truths to the ultimate parts. This ordering is a hellish one since hell itself is ordered in a similar way. The most outlying parts constitute the lowest of the natural.

[3] The reason why 'the oak' means falsities which are the lowest parts of the natural is that in the Ancient Church, when external worship representative of the Lord's kingdom existed, all trees of every kind had some spiritual or else celestial meaning. The olive, for example, and consequently olive oil, meant those things which belonged to celestial love; the vine and consequently wine those things that belonged to charity and from this to faith; and so on with every other kind of tree, such as the cedar, the fig, the poplar, the beech, and the oak, which too had their own individual meanings, as shown in various places in explanatory sections. It is because of the meaning these trees had in the Ancient Church that they are mentioned so many times in the Word, as also in general are gardens, groves, and forests, and that people held their worship in these, under particular trees. But because that worship became idolatrous, and the descendants of Jacob, among whom a representative of the Church was to be established, were inclined to idolatrous practices and therefore set up so many idols in such places, they were forbidden to hold worship in gardens and groves, under the trees there. Even so, these trees retained their spiritual or celestial meanings. Consequently not only the more noble trees, such as olives, vines, and cedars, but also the poplar, the beech, and the oak, when mentioned in the Word, have the same meanings as they had in the Ancient Church.

[4] 'Oaks' in the good sense means the truths and forms of good that make up the lowest parts of the natural, and in the contrary sense the falsities and evils which do so, as is clear from places where they are mentioned in the Word and understood in the internal sense, as in Isaiah,

Those forsaking Jehovah will be consumed, for they will be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired. And you will be like an oak, casting down its leaves and like a garden that has no water. Isaiah 1:28-30.

In the same prophet,

The day of Jehovah Zebaoth upon everyone uplifted or lowly, and upon all the cedars of Lebanon, and upon all the oaks of Bashan. Isaiah 2:12-13.

Anyone may recognize that 'the day of Jehovah' is not going to be a visitation upon cedars and oaks but upon people meant by those trees. In the same prophet,

He who fashions a god cuts down cedars for himself, and takes a beech and an oak and strengthens himself among the trees of the forest. Isaiah 44:10, 14.

[5] In Ezekiel,

You will acknowledge that I am Jehovah, when their slain lie in the midst of the idols around their altars, upon every high hill, on all the mountain-tops, and under every green tree, and under every entangled oak, in the place where they offered an odour of rest to all their idols. Ezekiel 6:13.

The ancients also worshipped on hills and mountains because 'hills and mountains' means heavenly love - though when idolaters do the same, self-love and love of the world are meant, 795, 796, 1430, 2722, 4210 - and also under trees because, as stated above, each had a meaning of its own depending on what kind of tree it was. 'Under an entangled oak' here means worship based on falsities constituting the lowest parts of the natural, for they exist there in an entangled condition, 2831. In Hosea,

They offer sacrifice on mountain-tops and burn incense on hills, under oak, poplar, and hard oak, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters commit whoredom, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery. Hosea 4:13.

'Committing whoredom' means falsifying truths, and 'committing adultery' perverting forms of good - see 2466, 2729, 3399. In Zechariah,

Open your doors, O Lebanon, and let fire consume your cedars, for the cedar is fallen, for the magnificent ones are ruined. Howl, O oaks of Bashan, for the forest of Bazir has come down. Zechariah 11:1-2.
