2 сын человеческий! были две женщины, дочери одной матери,

3 и блудили они в Египте, блудили в своей молодости; там измяты груди их, и там растлили девственные сосцы их.

4 Имена им: большой – Огола, а сестре ее – Оголива. И были они Моими, и рождали сыновей и дочерей; и именовались – Огола Самариею, а Оголива Иерусалимом.

5 И стала Огола блудить от Меня и пристрастилась к своим любовникам, к Ассириянам, к соседям своим,

6 к одевавшимся в ткани яхонтового цвета, к областеначальникам и градоправителям, ко всем красивым юношам, всадникам, ездящим на конях;

7 и расточала блудодеяния свои со всеми отборными из сынов Ассура, и оскверняла себя всеми идолами тех, к кому ни пристращалась;

8 не переставала блудить и с Египтянами, потому что они с нею спали в молодости ее ирастлевали девственные сосцы ее, и изливали на нее похоть свою.

9 За то Я и отдал ее в руки любовников ее, в руки сынов Ассура, ккоторым она пристрастилась.

10 Они открыли наготу ее, взяли сыновей ее и дочерей ее, а ее убили мечом. И она сделалась позором между женщинами, когда совершили над нею казнь.

11 Сестра ее, Оголива, видела это, и еще развращеннее была в любви своей, и блужение ее превзошло блужение сестры ее.

12 Она пристрастилась к сынам Ассуровым, к областеначальникам и градоправителям, соседям ее, пышно одетым, к всадникам, ездящим на конях, ко всем отборным юношам.

13 И Я видел, что она осквернила себя, и что у обеих их одна дорога.

14 Но эта еще умножила блудодеяния свои, потому что, увидев вырезанных на стене мужчин, красками нарисованные изображения Халдеев,

15 опоясанных по чреслам своим поясом, с роскошными на голове их повязками, имеющих вид военачальников, похожих на сынов Вавилона, которых родина земля Халдейская,

16 она влюбилась в них по одному взгляду очей своих и послала к ним в Халдею послов.

17 И пришли к ней сыны Вавилона на любовное ложе, и осквернили ееблудодейством своим, и она осквернила себя ими; и отвратилась от них душа ее.

18 Когда же она явно предалась блудодеяниям своим и открыла наготу свою, тогда и от нее отвратилась душа Моя, как отвратилась душа Моя от сестрыее.

19 И она умножала блудодеяния свои, вспоминая дни молодости своей, когда блудила в земле Египетской;

20 и пристрастилась к любовникам своим, у которых плотьплоть ослиная, и похоть, каку жеребцов.

21 Так ты вспомнила распутство молодости твоей, когда Египтяне жали сосцы твои из-за девственных грудей твоих.

22 Посему, Оголива, так говорит Господь Бог: вот, Я возбужу против тебя любовников твоих, от которых отвратилась душа твоя, и приведу их против тебя со всех сторон:

23 сынов Вавилона и всех Халдеев, из Пехода, из Шоа и Коа, и с ними всех сынов Ассура, красивых юношей, областеначальников и градоправителей, сановных и именитых, всех искусных наездников.

24 И придут на тебя с оружием, с конями и колесницами и с множеством народа, и обступят тебя кругом в латах, со щитами и в шлемах, и отдам им тебя на суд, ибудут судить тебя своим судом.

25 И обращу ревность Мою против тебя, и поступят с тобою яростно: отрежут у тебя нос и уши, а остальное твое от меча падет; возьмут сыновей твоихи дочерей твоих, а остальное твое огнем будет пожрано;

26 и снимут с тебя одежды твои, возьмут наряды твои.

27 И положу конец распутству твоему и блужению твоему, принесенному изземли Египетской, и не будешь обращать к ним глаз твоих, и о Египте уже не вспомнишь.

28 Ибо так говорит Господь Бог: вот, Я предаю тебя в руки тех, которых ты возненавидела, в руки тех, от которых отвратилась душа твоя.

29 И поступят с тобою жестоко, и возьмут у тебя все, нажитое трудами, и оставят тебя нагою и непокрытою, и открыта будет срамная нагота твоя, и распутство твое, и блудодейство твое.

30 Это будет сделано с тобою за блудодейство твое снародами, которых идолами ты осквернила себя.

31 Ты ходила дорогою сестры твоей; за то и дам в руку тебе чашу ее.

32 Так говорит Господь Бог: ты будешь пить чашу сестры твоей, глубокую и широкую, и подвергнешься посмеянию и позору, по огромной вместительности ее.

33 Опьянения и горести будешь исполнена: чаша ужаса и опустошения – чаша сестры твоей, Самарии!

34 И выпьешь ее, и осушишь, и черепки ее оближешь, и груди твоиистерзаешь: ибо Я сказал это, говорит Господь Бог.

35 Посему так говорит Господь Бог: так как ты забыла Меня и отвратилась от Меня, то и терпи за беззаконие твое и за блудодейство твое.

36 И сказал мне Господь: сын человеческий! хочешь ли судить Оголу иОголиву? выскажи им мерзости их;

37 ибо они прелюбодействовали, и кровь на руках их, и с идолами своими прелюбодействовали, и сыновей своих, которых родили Мне, через огонь проводили в пищу им.

38 Еще вот что они делали Мне: оскверняли святилище Мое в тот же день, и нарушали субботы Мои;

39 потому что, когда они заколали детей своих для идолов своих, в тот же день приходилив святилище Мое, чтобы осквернять его: вот как поступали они в доме Моем!

40 Кроме сего посылали за людьми, приходившими издалека; к ним отправляли послов, и вот, они приходили, и ты для них умывалась, сурьмила глазатвои и украшалась нарядами,

41 и садились на великолепное ложе, перед которым приготовляем был стол и на котором предлагала ты благовонные курения Мои и елей Мой.

42 И раздавался голос народа, ликовавшего у нее, и к людям из толпы народной вводимы были пьяницы из пустыни; и они возлагали на руки их запястья и на головы их красивые венки.

43 Тогда сказал Я об одряхлевшей в прелюбодействе: теперь кончатся блудодеяния ее вместес нею.

44 Но приходили к ней, как приходят к жене блуднице, так приходили к Оголе и Оголиве, к распутным женам.

45 Но мужи праведные будут судить их; они будут судить их судом прелюбодейц и судом проливающих кровь, потому что они прелюбодейки, и у нихкровь на руках.

46 Ибо так сказал Господь Бог: созвать на них собрание и предать их озлоблению и грабежу.

47 И собрание побьет их камнями, и изрубит их мечами своими, и убьет сыновей их и дочерей их, и домы их сожжет огнем.

48 Так положу конец распутству на сей земле, и все женщины примут урок, и не будут делать срамных дел подобно вам;

49 и возложат на вас ваше распутство, и понесете наказание за грехи с идолами вашими, иузнаете, что Я Господь Бог.

196. And they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy, signifies their spiritual life, which they have by means of the knowledges of truth and good from the Word. This is evident from the signification of "to walk," as being to live (See above, n. 97 [1-2]); from the signification of "in white," as being in truths, for "whiteness" and "brightness" in the Word are predicated of truths (of which presently); therefore by these words, "they shall walk with me in white," is signified spiritual life, since spiritual life is the life of truth, that is, a life according to truths, or according to the precepts of the Lord in the Word. This is evident also from the signification of "for they are worthy," as being because they have spiritual life from the Lord. So far as anyone receives from the Lord he is worthy; but so far as he receives from self, that is, from what is his, or from what is his own [proprium] he is not worthy. Nothing else constitutes spiritual life with man but the knowledges of truth and good from the Word applied to life; and they are applied to life when man holds them as the laws of his life, for he then looks to the Lord in everything, and with such the Lord is present, and gives intelligence and wisdom and an affection for them and delight in them. For the Lord is in His truths with man, since every truth proceeds from the Lord, and what proceeds from the Lord that is His, even so that it is He; therefore the Lord says:

I am the truth and the life (John 14:6).

He that doeth the truth cometh to the light, [that his works may be made manifest] that they have been wrought in God (John 3:21).

The Word was with God, and God was the Word. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. That was the true light, that lighteth every man. And the Word was made flesh (John 1:1, 4, 9, 14).

The Lord is called "the Word" because the Word signifies Divine truth; He is also called "the Light" because Divine truth is the light in the heavens; He is also called "the Life," because everything that lives, lives from that life; from that also angels have intelligence and wisdom, in which their life consists. He who would derive life from any other source than from the Divine that proceeds from the Lord, which in heaven is called Divine truth and is there seen as light, is greatly mistaken. From this it can be seen how it is to be understood that "God was the Word," and that "in Him was life, and that the life was the light of men. "

[2] "White" in the Word is predicated of truths, because Divine truth is the light of heaven, as was just said, and whiteness and brightness are from the light of heaven. From this it was:

That when the Lord was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, His face appeared as the sun, and His garments as the light (Matthew 17:2);

And as white, dazzling (Luke 9:29);

And glistering as snow, so as no fuller on earth could whiten (Mark 9:3);

That the angels at the Lord's sepulcher had raiment white as snow (Matthew 28:3);

(Luke 24:4)

And shining (Luke 24:4);

That there appeared to John seven angels from the temple clothed in linen clean and shining (Revelation 15:6);

That those who stood before the throne of the Lamb were clothed in white robes (Revelation 6:11; 7:9, 13-14; 19:8);

That the armies of the One sitting upon the white horse followed Him on white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean (Revelation 14:14).

From this also it was:

That Aaron had garments of linen, and that he put them on when he went within the veil before the mercy-seat (Leviticus 16:1-5, 32).

"Linen" also signifies truth, because of its whiteness (Arcana Coelestia 7601, 9959). As "white" signifies truth, and truths are what disclose falsities and evil with man and thus purify him, it is said in David:

Behold, Thou desirest truth in the reins, and in the hidden part Thou makest me to know wisdom. Thou shalt purge me with hyssop that I may be made clean; Thou shalt wash me and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalms 51:6-7).

[3] Because the Nazirites represented the Lord in respect to Divine truth in ultimates, which on earth is the Word in the sense of the letter, and this with the Jews was falsified and perverted, it is said of them in Lamentations:

The Nazirites were whiter than snow, they were brighter than milk, their bones were more ruddy than pearls, their polishing was sapphire; but their form is darkened, that they are not known in the streets (Lamentations 4:7-8

(That "Nazirites" represented the Lord in respect to Divine truth, see Arcana Coelestia 6437; that "the crown of the head of the Nazirites" means Divine truths in ultimates, or the Word in the letter, n. 6437, 9407. That the "hair" which was of the Naziriteship, and was called "the crown of the head of the Nazirite," is Divine truth in ultimates, n. 3301, 5247, 10044. That Divine truth in ultimates has strength and power, n. 9836; that therefore the strength of Samson was in his hair, n. 3301.)

[4] From this it is clear what is signified by "the Nazirites were whiter than snow and brighter than milk," and "sapphire was the polishing of their bones; but their form was darkened, that they were not known in the streets;" for "whiteness" and "brightness" signify Divine truth in its light (as was said above); and "bones," as they are man's ultimates, being the supports of his whole body, correspond to ultimates in heaven. (For all things of man correspond, see in the work on Heaven and Hell 87-102; consequently "bones" signify the ultimates in the spiritual world, which are also the ultimates of Divine truth or the Word, Arcana Coelestia 5560-5564, 8005; that "sapphire" signifies what is translucent from truths, n. 9407; and "not to be known in the streets" signifies that Divine truth is no more seen, since "streets" signify where there are truths of doctrine, n. 2336.)

9166. 'An oath of Jehovah shall be between them both' means enquiry made through truths from the Word regarding every single aspect of these things. This is clear from the meaning of 'an oath' as confirming through truths, dealt with in 2842, 3037, 3375, so that 'an oath of Jehovah' means doing so through truths from the Word, for the Word contains Jehovah's truths, that is, God's truths; and from the meaning of 'them both' as in every single aspect, for in the internal sense 'between both' does not mean between two but in every single aspect. 'Two' means things joined together to make a single whole, 1686, 3519, 5194, 8423, thus all that composes the whole, or every single aspect of it. This is what those in heaven perceive 'two' to be; and the reason why they do so is that when a discussion takes place among angels regarding two truths at variance with each other, a scene in which two spirits are arguing with each other presents itself on the level below. And since these spirits are the subordinates of a number of communities, every single aspect of one truth appears with one spirit, and every single aspect of the other truth with the other spirit. From this the angels perceive how the two are able to be linked together. I have been allowed to know from experience that this is what happens. So it is that when the words 'them both' are used in reference to truths they mean in every single aspect. This also is the reason why 'two' means something complete, 9103.

[2] The reason why it was permissible among the Israelite and Jewish nation to swear by Jehovah was that they were not internal, only external people, and when they engaged in the worship of God they did so on an external and not an internal level. The fact that they were like this, see 4281, 4293, 4429, 4433, 4680, 4844, 4847, 4865, 4903, 6304, 8588, 8788, 8806. When the confirmation of a truth comes down into the external man separated from the internal, it is effected by means of an oath; but not so when it comes down into the external by way of the internal. For in the internal man truth appears in its own light, but in the external without the internal truth appears in darkness. This explains why the celestial angels, who inhabit the inmost or third heaven, being in the highest degree of light do not even confirm truths by the use of reasons. Still less do they engage in argument and reasoning about truths; they simply say Yes or No, which they do by virtue of an ability received from the Lord to perceive and see them.

[3] This explains why the Lord has said the following regarding oaths,

You have heard that it was said, You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord your oaths. But I say to you, You shall not swear at all, neither by heaven, for it is God's throne, nor by the earth, for it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your words be, Yes, yes; No, no; anything beyond this is from evil. 1 Matthew 5:33-37.

These words imply that confirmation of God's truths should come from the Lord and not from man, which it does when people are internal and not external. For people who are external confirm truths by means of oaths, but those who are internal do so by means of reasons, while those who are even more internal do not confirm them at all but simply say It is so, or It isn't so. Those who are external are called natural people, those who are internal are called spiritual people, and those even more internal are called celestial people. The last of these - celestial people - have the ability, received from the Lord, to perceive intuitively whether something is true or not, see 2708, 2715, 2718, 3246, 4448, 7877. All this shows what was implied when the Lord said, You shall not swear at all, and also Let your words be Yes, yes; No, no. But why He also said that they were not to swear by heaven, by the earth, by Jerusalem, or by their head, and that any words beyond 'Yes, yes; No, no' are from evil, must be explained.

[4] Swearing by heaven means doing so by Divine Truth, thus by the Lord there. Heaven is heaven not by virtue of the angels regarded in themselves but by virtue of the Divine Truth emanating from the Lord, thus by virtue of the Lord Himself, within them; for the Divine within them is what enables them to be angels of heaven and be called angels of heaven. This explains why those in heaven are said to be 'in the Lord', why the Lord is the All in every single thing of heaven, and also why angels are God's truths, being recipients of God's truth emanating from the Lord.

Heaven is heaven and is called heaven by virtue of what is Divine and the Lord's there, see 552, 3038, 3700. Angels are God's truths, 4295, 4402, 7268, 7873, 8301. Something of the Lord is meant by an angel in the Word, 1925, 2821, 3039, 4085, 4295, 6280.

Since heaven is the Lord in respect of Divine Truth, it says 'you shall not swear by heaven, for it is God's throne'. 'God's throne' is Divine Truth which emanates from the Lord, 5313, 6397, 9039.

[5] Swearing by the earth however is doing so by the Church, thus by Divine Truth there. For just as heaven is the Lord by virtue of Divine Truth that emanates from Him, so too is the Church, the Church being the Lord's heaven or His kingdom on earth. For the meaning of 'earth' in the Word as the Church, see 662, 1066, 1262, 1733, 1850, 2117, 2118 (end), 2928, 3355, 4447, 4535, 5577, 8011, 8732. And since 'the earth' is the Church, the place where what is Divine and the Lord's below heaven exists, it says 'you shall not swear by the earth, for it is God's footstool'. 'Footstool' means God's truth below heaven, which is truth as it exists in the literal sense of the Word; for on this sense God's truth in heaven, which is the Word in the internal sense, rests and so to speak stands. Truth as it exists in the literal sense is meant by 'footstool' in David, in Psalms 99:5; 132:7; in Isaiah 60:13; and in Jeremiah, in Lamentations 2:1.

[6] Swearing by Jerusalem however is doing so by teachings that present truth drawn from the Word. For in a broad sense 'Jerusalem' is the Church, 2117, 3654; but when the words 'the earth', meaning the Church, are used, followed by 'Jerusalem', 'Jerusalem' then means the Church's teachings, consequently teachings that present God's truth drawn from the Word. This is why it is called 'the city of the great [King, who is] God', for 'city' in the internal sense of the Word means teachings that present the truth, see 402, 2449, 2943, 3216, 4478, 4492, 4493.

[7] Swearing by his head however means a person's doing so by the truth which he himself believes to be the truth and makes part of his faith; for this as it resides with him constitutes 'his head', and it is also what is meant by 'the head' in Isaiah 15:2; 29:10; in Ezekiel 7:18; 13:18; 16:12; 29:18; in Matthew 6:17; and elsewhere. Therefore it also says, 'for you cannot make one hair white or black'. 'Hair' means truth belonging to the external or natural man, 3301, the kind that exists with those who believe the truth not because they perceive it to be the truth but because the teachings of the Church declare it to be so. And since they know the truth on no other grounds than this it says that they are not to swear by it because they cannot make a hair white or black. 'Making a hair white' means declaring on one's own authority that truth is truth, and 'making a hair black' declaring on one's own authority that falsity is falsity. For 'white' is said in reference to truth, 3301, 3993, 4007, 5319, and therefore 'black' in reference to falsity.

[8] From all this one may now see what is meant by the command not to swear at all, not by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by Jerusalem, nor by one's head, namely that a person should not use what is his own to confirm God's truth but what is the Lord's with him. Therefore it also says finally, Your words shall be Yes, yes; No, no; anything beyond this is from evil. Those who have the ability, which comes from the Lord, to perceive and see truth confirm it in this way alone, even as angels of the inmost or third heaven do, the ones who are called celestial angels, spoken about above. The reason why any words beyond 'Yes, yes; No, no' are from evil is that anything beyond them does not come from the Lord but from a person's proprium or self, thus from evil, since a person's proprium is nothing but evil, see 210, 215, 874-876, 987, 1023, 1044, 1047, 3812 (end), 4328, 5660, 8941, 8944. All this again shows in what way the Lord spoke, that is to say, in such a way that every single word contained an inner meaning, since He spoke from the Divine. Thus He spoke for the benefit of angels at the same time as for men; for angels perceive the Word according to its inner meaning.
