Zechariah 13

Studie

1 In that day there shall be a spring opened to the house of David and to those dwelling··in Jerusalem for sin and for impurity*.

2 And it shall be in that day, says Jehovah of Armies, that I will cut··off the names of the idols out··of the land, and they shall not be remembered any··more; and also I will cause the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness to pass out··of the land.

3 And it shall be, when a man shall yet prophesy, that his father and his mother who begot him shall say to him, Thou shalt not live, for thou speakest falsity in the name of Jehovah; and his father and his mother who begot him shall thrust· him ·through when he prophesies.

4 And it shall be in that day, that the prophets shall be··ashamed every man of his vision, when he has prophesied; and they shall not be clothed with a mantle of hair in··order··to deceive.

5 But he shall say, I am not a prophet. I am a man who tills the ground, for man sold me from my youth.

6 And one shall say to him, What are these wounds in thy hands? And he shall say, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my love.

7 Stir··up, O sword, against My Shepherd, and against the Mighty··Man who is My Fellow, says Jehovah of Armies. Smite the Shepherd, and the flock shall be scattered; and I will return My hand upon the little··ones.

8 And it shall be, that in all the land, says Jehovah, two parts* in it shall be cut··off and expire, but the third shall remain in it.

9 And I will bring the third part* into the fire, and will refine them as the silver is refined, and will test them as the gold is tested; he shall call on My name, and I will answer him; I will say, This is My people; and he shall say, Jehovah is my God.

Before

In most cases, the meaning of "before" is pretty straightforward, both as a way of assessing relative time, and in its use meaning "in someone's presence." It takes on a deeper significance, though, when used in connection with the Lord. To be "before" the Lord means not just in His presence, but also receiving the desire for good and the understanding of truth from Him, and living according to them. And when used as an assessment of time in connection with the Lord, "before" means "from eternity," and refers to a spiritual state rather than time as we experience it.
