Numbers 6

Studie

1 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

2 Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them, When a man or woman shall vow the special vow of a Nazarite, to be··a··Nazarite to Jehovah;

3 he shall separate himself from wine and strong··drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, nor vinegar of strong··drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat fresh grapes, nor dry.

4 All the days of his Nazariteship, from all that is made from the vine of the wine, from the pulp even to the skin, he shall not eat.

5 All the days of the vow of his being··a··Nazarite a razor shall not go··across over his head; until the days be··fulfilled, in which he makes· himself ·a··Nazarite to Jehovah, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head become··great.

6 All the days that he makes· himself ·a··Nazarite to Jehovah he shall come upon no dead soul.

7 For his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, he shall not make· himself ·unclean for them when they die; for Nazariteship of his God is upon his head.

8 All the days of his being··a··Nazarite he is holy to Jehovah.

9 And if someone die, dying by him all of··a··sudden, suddenly, and he has defiled the head of his Nazariteship, then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, in the seventh day shall he shave it.

10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves, or two young doves, to the priest, to the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation;

11 and the priest shall make one for a sin offering, and one for a burnt··offering, and make··atonement for him, for that which he sinned by the soul, and shall sanctify his head in that day.

12 And he shall make· himself ·a··Nazarite to Jehovah the days of his being··a··Nazarite, and shall bring a lamb, a son of a year for a guilt offering; but the first days shall fall, for his Nazariteship was defiled.

13 And this is the law of the Nazarite, in the day the days of his Nazariteship are··fulfilled; he shall be brought to the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation.

14 And he shall offer his offering to Jehovah, a he-lamb, a son of his year, a perfect one, for a burnt··offering, and one ewe-lamb, a daughter of her year, perfect, for a sin offering, and one perfect ram for peace··offerings,

15 and a basket of unleavened flour, cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and their gift··offering, and their poured··offerings.

16 And the priest shall offer them before Jehovah, and shall make his sin offering, and his burnt··offering;

17 and he shall make the ram for a sacrifice of peace··offerings to Jehovah, on the basket of unleavened bread; and the priest shall make his gift··offering and his poured··offering.

18 And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his Nazariteship at the entrance of the Tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his Nazariteship, and put it on the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace··offerings.

19 And the priest shall take the cooked arm of the ram, and one unleavened cake from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the palms of the Nazarite, after the hair of his Nazariteship is shaven.

20 And the priest shall wave them for a waving before Jehovah; it is holy for the priest, on the chest portion of the waving and upon the hind··quarter of the uplifting; and afterwards the Nazarite may drink wine.

21 This is the law of the Nazarite who has vowed, and of his offering to Jehovah for his being··a··Nazarite, apart from what his hand shall attain; as the mouth of the vow which he vowed, so he shall do on··account··of the law of his being··a··Nazarite.

22 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

23 Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the sons of Israel, saying to them,

24 Jehovah bless thee, and keep thee;

25 Jehovah make His face to give··light to thee, and be··gracious··to thee;

26 Jehovah lift··up His face to thee, and set for thee peace.

27 And they shall set My name on the sons of Israel; and I will bless them.

288. The law is frequently mentioned in the Word. I must state what the law means in the strict sense, what in a wider sense, and what in the widest sense. In the strict sense the law means the Ten Commandments; in a wider sense the rules given by Moses to the Children of Israel, and in the widest sense the whole Word.

It is well known that the law in the strict sense means the Ten Commandments. The law in a wider sense means the rules given by Moses to the Children of Israel, as is evident from the individual rules in Leviticus each being called a law:

This is the law of the sacrifice, Leviticus 7:1.

This is the law of the sacrifice for making one's peace, Leviticus 7:7, 11.

This is the law of the grain-offering, Leviticus 6:14ff

This is the law of the burnt-offering, the grain-offering, the sin-sacrifice and the guilt-sacrifice, and the completions, Leviticus 7:37.

This is the law of beast and bird, Leviticus 11:46-47.

This is the law of the woman who gives birth to a son or a daughter, Leviticus 12:7.

This is the law of leprosy, Leviticus 13:59; 14:2, 32, 54, 57 This is the law of the person with a discharge, Leviticus 15:32.

This is the law of jealousy, Numbers 5:29-30.

This is the law of the Nazirite, Numbers 6:13, 21.

This is the law of cleansing, Numbers 19:14.

This is the law concerning the red cow, Numbers 19:2.

The law for the king, Deuteronomy 17:15-19.

In fact the whole book of Moses 1 is called the law (Deuteronomy 31:9, 11-12, 26; also in the New Testament, as Luke 2:22; 24:44; John 1:45; 7:22-23; 8:5; and elsewhere).

[2] The context plainly shows that these rules were what Paul meant by 'the deeds prescribed by the law', when he says that man is justified by faith without the deeds prescribed by the law (Romans 3:28). The same is shown by his words to Peter, whom he criticised for behaving like the Jews, when he says three times in one verse that no one is justified by the deeds prescribed by the law (Galatians 2:14, 16).

The law in its widest sense means the whole of the Word, as is plain from these passages:

Jesus said, Is it not written in your law, you are gods? John 10:34.

This is said in Psalms 82:6.

The crowd answered, We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever, John 12:34.

This is said in Psalms 89:29; Psalms 110:4; Daniel 7:14.

That the word should be fulfilled which is written in their law, They hated me without cause. John

This is said in Psalms 35:19.

The Pharisees said, Have any of the princes believed in him? But the crowd which does not know the law.... John 7:48-49.

It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to fall out, Luke 16:17.

The law in these passages means the whole of Holy Scripture; and there are a thousand further passages in the Psalms of David.

Poznámky pod čarou:

1. I.e. the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy).
