Numbers 28

Studie

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Command the sons of Israel, and say to them, My offering, My bread for My fire··offerings, a restful smell to Me, you shall keep, to offer to Me in its season.

And thou shalt say to them, This is the fire··offering which you shall offer to Jehovah: two perfect lambs, sons of a year, for the day, a continual burnt··offering.

The one lamb shalt thou make in the morning, and the second lamb shalt thou make between the two··evenings*.

and a tenth of an ephah of flour for a gift··offering, mixed with the fourth of a hin of beaten oil.

It is a continual burnt··offering, made in Mount Sinai for a restful smell, a fire··offering to Jehovah.

And its poured··offering shall be a fourth of a hin for the one lamb; in the holy place shalt thou pour··out a poured··offering of strong··drink to Jehovah.

And the second lamb thou shalt make between the evenings; as the gift··offering of the morning, and as its poured··offering, thou shalt make it, a fire··offering, a restful smell to Jehovah.

And on the Sabbath day two perfect lambs, sons of a year, and two tenths of flour for a gift··offering, mixed with oil, and its poured··offering;

this is the burnt··offering of the Sabbath in its Sabbath, by the continual burnt··offering, and its poured··offering.

And in the beginnings of your months you shall offer a burnt··offering to Jehovah: two bullocks, sons of the herd, and one ram, seven perfect lambs, sons of a year;

and three tenths of flour for a gift··offering, mixed with oil, for one bullock; and two tenths of flour for a gift··offering, mixed with oil, for one ram;

and a tenth, a tenth of flour, mixed with oil for a gift··offering for one lamb, it is a burnt··offering, a restful smell, a fire··offering to Jehovah.

And their poured··offerings shall be half a hin of wine to a bullock, and the third part of a hin to a ram, and a fourth part of a hin to a lamb; this is the burnt··offering month by month for the months of the year.

And one male goat of the goats for a sin offering to Jehovah shall be made, by the continual burnt··offering, and its poured··offering.

And in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month is the Passover of Jehovah.

And in the fifteenth day of this month is the festival; seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.

In the first day shall be a holy convocation; you shall not do any work* of service in it;

but you shall offer a fire··offering for a burnt··offering to Jehovah: two bullocks, sons of the herd, and one ram, and seven lambs, sons of a year; they shall be to you perfect;

and their gift··offering shall be of flour mixed with oil; three tenths you shall make for a bullock, and two tenths for a ram;

a tenth, a tenth shalt thou make for one lamb, for the seven lambs;

and one male goat for a sin offering, to make··atonement for you.

You shall make these offerings, apart from the burnt··offering of the morning, which is for a continual burnt··offering.

According··to these things you shall do for the day, for seven days, the bread of the fire··offering, a restful smell to Jehovah; it shall be made on the continual burnt··offering, and its poured··offering.

And on the seventh day shall be for you a holy convocation; you shall not do any work of service in it.

And in the day of the firstfruits, when you offer a new gift··offering to Jehovah, in your feast of weeks, there shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall not do any work of service in it;

but you shall offer the burnt··offering for a restful smell to Jehovah: two bullocks, sons of the herd, one ram, seven lambs, sons of a year;

and their gift··offering of flour mixed with oil, three tenths to one bullock, two tenths to one ram,

a tenth, a tenth to one lamb, for the seven lambs;

And one male goat of the goats, to make··atonement for you.

Apart from the continual burnt··offering and its gift··offering, you shall make them; they shall be to you perfect; and their poured··offerings.

Two

The number "two" has two different meanings in the Bible. In most cases "two" indicates a joining together or unification. This is easy to see if we consider the conflicts we tend to have between our "hearts" and our "heads" -- between what we want and what we know. Our "hearts" tell us that we want pie with ice cream for dinner; our "heads" tell us we should have grilled chicken and salad. If we can bring those two together and actually want what's good for us, we'll be pretty happy. We're built that way -- with our emotions balanced against our intellect -- because the Lord is built that way. His essence is love itself, or Divine Love, the source of all caring, emotion and energy. It is expressed as Divine Wisdom, which gives form to that love and puts it to work, and is the source of all knowledge and reasoning. In His case the two aspects are always in conjunction, always in harmony. It's easy also to see how that duality is reflected throughout creation: plants and animals, food and drink, silver and gold. Most importantly, it's reflected in the two genders, with women representing love and men representing wisdom. That's the underlying reason why conjunction in marriage is such a holy thing. So when "two" is used in the Bible to indicate some sort of pairing or unity, it means a joining together. In rare cases, however, "two" is used more purely as a number. In these cases it stands for a profane or unholy state that comes before a holy one. This is because "three" represents a state of holiness and completion (Jesus, for instance, rose from the tomb on the third day), and "two" represents the state just before it.
