Jeremiah 47

Studie

1 The word of Jehovah that was to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh smote Gaza.

2 Thus says Jehovah; Behold, waters go··up from the north, and shall be an overflowing of the brook, and they shall overflow the land, and her fullness; the city, and those who dwell in her; and mankind shall cry, and everyone that dwells··in the land shall howl.

3 From the voice of the stamping of the hoofs of his steeds, from the quaking of his chariots, and from the noise of his rolling wheels, the fathers shall not turn· their ·faces to their sons from slackness of hands;

4 on··account··of the day that comes to devastate all the Philistines, and to cut··off from Tyre and from Zidon every surviving helper; for Jehovah will devastate the Philistines, those who··are··left of the island of Caphtor.

5 Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut··off with what··is··left of their valley; until when wilt thou gash thyself?

6 Woe, the sword of Jehovah! How long wilt thou be· not ·quiet? Be gathered into thy sheath, repose and be··still.

7 How art thou quiet? For Jehovah has commanded it to Ashkelon, and to the coast of the sea; there has He appointed* it.

Hand

Hands in the Bible represent power, the force with which things are put into action. To be specific, they represent the power of spiritual good -- which is the love of others and serving others -- expressed through spiritual truth -- which is an understanding and knowledge of what it is to love and serve others. This is in contrast to the feet, which represent power on the natural level, and a “rod,” which represents the power of the hand passed down into external or natural ideas. In a few cases in the Bible, hands also represent communication and a drawing together. This is true when people lift their hands to heaven or to Jehovah, and also when the Lord touches children or touches people to heal them.
