¹ And the word of Jehovah was unto^▵ Jeremiah^◦ a second time (and he^◦ was still restrained in the court of the prison^◦), saying,

² Thus says Jehovah her maker, Jehovah who formed her, to establish her, Jehovah is His name:

³ Call unto^▵ Me, and I will answer thee, and tell thee of great and fortified things; thou knowest them not.

⁴ For thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are torn·​·down by the embankments, and by the sword:

⁵ they are coming to fight the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them^* with^◦ human corpses, whom I have smitten in My anger and in My fury, and I have hidden My face from this city on·​·account·​·of all their evil.

⁶ Behold, I will cause health^◦ and healing to come·​·up to her, and I will heal them, and will reveal to them^◦ the crown of peace and truth.

⁷ And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

⁸ And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against^▵ Me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against^◦ Me.

⁹ And it shall be for Me for a name of joy, for praise and for adornment to all the nations of the earth, who shall hear all the goodness that I^▵ do for them; and they shall dread and tremble over all the goodness and over all the peace, which I^▵ will do for her.

¹⁰ Thus says Jehovah: Yet·​·again there shall be heard in this place, which you^◦ say is a waste without^▵ man and without^▵ beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolated, without^▵ man, and without^▵ those who dwell in her, and without^▵ beast,

¹¹ the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who shall say, Confess Jehovah of Armies; for Jehovah is good, for His mercy is for eternity; and of those who shall bring· the offering of thanksgiving ·into the house of Jehovah. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return, as at the first, says Jehovah.

¹² Thus says Jehovah of Armies: Still in this place, which is a waste without^▵ man and without beast, and in all its cities, shall be a home of shepherds causing their flocks to lie·​·down^◦.

¹³ In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks pass yet·​·again under the hands of him who counts them, says Jehovah.

¹⁴ Behold, the days come, says^◦ Jehovah, that I will raise·​·up that^◦ good thing which I have spoken to^▵ the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

¹⁵ In those^◦ days, and at that^◦ time, I will cause the growing·​·Branch of justice to grow to David; and He shall do judgment and justice in the land.

¹⁶ In those^◦ days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall reside securely; and this is the name^* with which He shall be called: Jehovah-our-justice.

¹⁷ For thus says Jehovah: unto David there shall not be cut·​·off a man^◦ to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;

¹⁸ and to the priests, the Levites, there shall not be cut·​·off a man^◦ from before Me offering·​·up a burnt·​·offering, and burning· a gift·​·offering ·for·​·incense, and making a sacrifice all the days.

¹⁹ And the word of Jehovah was unto^▵ Jeremiah^◦, saying,

²⁰ Thus says Jehovah: If you can make·​·of·​·none·​·effect My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night, that there should not^▵ be day and night in their times;

²¹ then even My covenant will be made·​·of·​·none·​·effect: with^◦ David My servant, from his having^◦ a son to reign on his throne; and with^◦ the Levites the priests, from being My ministers.

²² As the army of the heavens cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David My servant, and the Levites who minister to Me.

²³ And the word of Jehovah was to^▵ Jeremiah^◦, saying,

²⁴ Seest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which Jehovah has chosen among^◦ them, He has even rejected them? And they have disdained My people, from being any·​·more a nation before them.

²⁵ Thus says Jehovah, If My covenant be not by·​·day and night, then I have not set the stated times of the heavens and the earth.

²⁶ even the seed of Jacob and David My servant I will reject, so that I will not^* take from his seed rulers for^◦ the seed of Abraham, Isaac^◦, and Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to return, and have·​·compassion on them.

¹ And it was, that the king sat in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest all around from all his enemies.

² And the king said to^▵ Nathan the prophet, See now^◦, I^▵ dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in the midst of curtains.

³ And Nathan said to^▵ the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee.

⁴ And it was, in that^◦ night, that the word of Jehovah was to^▵ Nathan, saying,

⁵ Go and say unto^▵ my servant, unto^▵ David, Thus says Jehovah, Shalt thou^◦ build Me a house to dwell in?

⁶ For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought·​·up the sons of Israel out of Egypt, and even^◦ to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a habitation.

⁷ In every place that I have walked with all the sons of Israel, spoke I a word with^◦ any one of the tribes^◦ of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, Why have you not built a house for Me of cedar?

⁸ And now, thus thou shalt say to my servant David, Thus says Jehovah of Armies, I^◦ have taken thee from the home, from behind the flock, to be a monarch over My people, over Israel.

⁹ And I was with thee, whithersoever thou wentest^◦, and have cut·​·off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a great name as the name of the great that are in the earth.

¹⁰ And I will set up a place for my people, for Israel, and will plant him, and he will inhabit his place^*, and not tremble any·​·more, neither shall the sons of perversity afflict him again as^◦ in the beginning^◦,

¹¹ and as since the day that I commanded judges over my people Israel, and gave thee rest from all thine enemies. And Jehovah tells thee that Jehovah will make a house for thee.

¹² When^◦ thy days shall be fulfilled and thou shalt lie with^◦ thy fathers, then I will raise·​·up thy seed after thee, which shall go·​·out from thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹³ He^◦ shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom even·​·to eternity.

¹⁴ I^◦ will be to him for a father, and he^◦ shall be to Me for a son; that when he commits·​·iniquity, then I will reprove him with the rod^▵ of men^◦, and with strokes^▵ of the sons of man.

¹⁵ But My mercy shall not go·​·away from him, as^◦ I caused it to go·​·away from Saul, whom I removed from before thee.

¹⁶ And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made faithful even·​·to eternity before thee; thy throne shall be established even·​·to eternity.

¹⁷ According·​·to all these words, and according·​·to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to^▵ David.

¹⁸ And King David came and sat before Jehovah, and he said, Who am I^▵, O Lord Jehovih^*? and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me hitherto?

¹⁹ And this was· yet a ·small thing in Thine eyes, O Lord Jehovih, but Thou hast also spoken of^▵ the house of Thy servant from far·​·off. And this is the law of man, O Lord Jehovih.

²⁰ And what can David yet add to speak unto^▵ Thee? But Thou^◦ knowest Thy servant, O Lord Jehovih.

²¹ For Thy Word’s sake and according to Thy heart hast Thou done all these great things, to make· Thy servant ·to·​·know.

²² Therefore Thou art·​·great, O Jehovah God; for there is none as^▵ Thou, and there is no God except Thee, according·​·to all that we have heard with our ears.

²³ And who is as Thy people, as Israel, one nation on^◦ the earth, whom God went^◦ to ransom for a people for Himself, and to set for Himself a name, and to do a great thing for you and fearful things for Thy land, before Thy people, whom Thou didst ransom to Thee from Egypt of the nations, and its gods?

²⁴ And Thou hast established to Thyself Thy people Israel, to be to Thee a people even·​·to eternity, and Thou^◦, O Jehovah, Thou art become their God.

²⁵ And now, O Jehovah God, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, raise· it ·up even·​·to eternity, and do as^◦ Thou hast spoken.

²⁶ And let Thy name be·​·magnified even·​·to eternity, saying, Jehovah of Armies is the God over Israel, and let the house of Thy servant David be established before Thee.

²⁷ For Thou^◦, O Jehovah of Armies, God of Israel, hast revealed to the ear of Thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house; therefore has Thy servant found his heart to pray this prayer unto^▵ Thee.

²⁸ And now, O Lord Jehovih, Thou^◦ art God Himself^◦, and Thy words be truth, and Thou hast spoken this goodness unto^▵ Thy servant.

²⁹ And now, be·​·content to bless the house of Thy servant, that it may be to eternity before Thee; for Thou^◦, O Lord Jehovih, hast spoken; and with Thy blessings let the house of Thy servant be blessed to eternity.
