1
The word which was to▵ Jeremiah◦ from◦ Jehovah, when King Zedekiah◦ sent to▵ him Pashur the son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,
2
Inquire, I pray◦ thee, of Jehovah for▫ us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon fights against us; perhaps Jehovah will do with◦ us according··to all His wonders, and he* may go··up from against us.
3
And Jeremiah◦ said to▵ them, Thus shall you say to▵ Zedekiah◦:
4
Thus says Jehovah God of Israel; Behold, I◦ will turn··around the weapons◦ of war that are in your hands, with which you◦ fight with◦ the king of Babylon, and with◦ the Chaldeans, who besiege you outside the walls, and I will gather them to▵ the midst of this city.
5
And I◦ Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a firm arm, and with anger, and with fury, and with great rage.
6
And I will smite those who dwell in this city, both man and beast; they shall··die of a great pestilence.
7
And afterwards, says◦ Jehovah, I will give Zedekiah◦ king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and those who are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their soul; and he shall smite them with the mouth of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have··pity, nor have··compassion.
8
And unto▵ this people thou shalt say, Thus says Jehovah; Behold, I put◦ before you the way of life, and the way of death.
9
He who dwells in this city shall··die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes··out, and falls to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his soul shall be to him for spoil.
10
For I have set My face against◦ this city for evil, and not for good, says◦ Jehovah; it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn· it ·up with fire.
11
And as··to the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah;
12
O house of David, thus says Jehovah; Make··the··cause with judgment in the morning, and rescue from the hand of the oppressor what is taken··by··robbery, lest My fury go··forth as fire, and burn, and no··one quench, on··account··of◦ the evil of your actions.
13
Behold, I am against▵ thee*, who dwellest in the valley, the rock of the plain◦, says◦ Jehovah; you who say, Who shall settle against us, and who shall come into our abodes?
14
But I will visit upon you according··to the fruit of your actions, says◦ Jehovah; and I will kindle a fire in the forest, and it shall devour all things all around it
