Hosea 14

Studie

1 2 Return, O Israel, to Jehovah thy God; for thou hast stumbled by thine iniquity.

2 3 Take with you words, and return to Jehovah; say to Him, Bear away all our iniquity, and receive what is good, and we will repay the bullocks of our lips.

3 4 Asshur shall not save us, we will not ride upon horses; we will not say any··more to what· our hands ·have··made, You are our gods; for in Thee there is compassion for the orphan.

4 5 I will heal their backturning; I will love them with freewill; for My anger is turned··back from him.

5 6 I will be as the dew unto Israel; he shall flourish as the lily, and fix* his roots as Lebanon.

6 7 His tender··branches shall go forth, and his majesty shall be as the olive··tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

7 8 They who dwell in his shadow shall return; they shall make the grain live, and they shall flourish as the vine; the remembrance of it shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

8 9 Ephraim, What have I still to do as··to idols? I have answered and sung of Him; I am as a green fir··tree. From Me thy fruit is found.

9 10 Who is wise, and shall understand these things? Who understands, and shall know them? For the ways of Jehovah are upright, and the just shall walk in them; but the transgressors shall stumble in them.

Root

'The dried up root,' as in Hosea 9:16, 17, signifies charity which could not bear fruit.
