Hosea 14

Studie

1 2 Return, O Israel, to Jehovah thy God; for thou hast stumbled by thine iniquity.

2 3 Take with you words, and return to Jehovah; say to Him, Bear away all our iniquity, and receive what is good, and we will repay the bullocks of our lips.

3 4 Asshur shall not save us, we will not ride upon horses; we will not say any··more to what· our hands ·have··made, You are our gods; for in Thee there is compassion for the orphan.

4 5 I will heal their backturning; I will love them with freewill; for My anger is turned··back from him.

5 6 I will be as the dew unto Israel; he shall flourish as the lily, and fix* his roots as Lebanon.

6 7 His tender··branches shall go forth, and his majesty shall be as the olive··tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

7 8 They who dwell in his shadow shall return; they shall make the grain live, and they shall flourish as the vine; the remembrance of it shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

8 9 Ephraim, What have I still to do as··to idols? I have answered and sung of Him; I am as a green fir··tree. From Me thy fruit is found.

9 10 Who is wise, and shall understand these things? Who understands, and shall know them? For the ways of Jehovah are upright, and the just shall walk in them; but the transgressors shall stumble in them.

Back (as in go back)

The meaning of “back” is more literal when it is connected to objects. When someone takes something back or gives something back, the spiritual meaning is mostly centered on the object in question and the people performing the action. There are many instances in the Bible which describe people turning back, looking back or going back. In most cases it is a negative, sometimes devastatingly so (as with Lot’s wife, turned to a pillar of salt when she looked back at the destructrion of Sodom). In general this represents our state when we are advancing to a new spiritual level and find ourselves wishing for the comfort and ease of the old one – going back represents a return to an earlier, inferior stage.
