Ezekiel 27

Studie

1 And the word of Jehovah was unto me, saying,

2 And, thou son of man, take··up a lamentation over Tyre;

3 and say to Tyre, O thou that art sitting by the entryway of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many islands, Thus says the Lord Jehovih*; O Tyre, thou hast said, I am of complete beauty.

4 Thy borders are in the heart of the seas, thy builders have completed thy beauty.

5 They have built for thee all the tables of fir··trees from Senir; they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make a mast upon thee.

6 Out of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; thy planks were made out of ivory, the daughter of steps*, out··of the islands of Kittim.

7 Fine··linen with embroidery from Egypt was thy spreading to be for a standard for thee; blue and crimson from the islands of Elishah was thy covering.

8 The dwellers of Zidon and Arvad were oarsmen for thee; thy wise, O Tyre, were in thee, they were thy shipmasters.

9 The elders of Gebal and her wise men were in thee, they who repaired thy cracks; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to market in thy market.

10 Persia and Lud and Put were in thy host, men of thy battle; they hung the shield and helmet in thee; they gave thy honor.

11 The sons of Arvad and thy host were upon thy walls all around, and the Gammadim were in thy towers; they hung their shields upon thy walls all around; they have completed thy beauty.

12 Tarshish was thy trader from the multitude of all her wealth; with silver, iron, tin and lead, which they gave for thy wares.

13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants, in the soul of man and vessels of bronze which they put in thy market.

14 From the house of Togarmah they gave horses and horsemen and mules for thy wares.

15 The sons of Dedan were thy merchants; many islands were the trading of thy hand; they returned horns of ivory and ebony for thine honorarium.

16 Syria was thy trader from the multitude of what· thou ·hast··made; with chrysoprase, crimson, and embroidery, and byssus*, and ramoth*, and pyrope*, which they gave for thy wares.

17 Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants; with wheat minnith and Pannag*, and honey and oil and balm, they put in thy market.

18 Damascus was thy trader in the multitude of what thou didst make, from the multitude of all wealth; in the wine of Helbon, and the wool of Zahar.

19 And Dan and Javan and* Meuzal, in thy wares they put reflecting iron; cassia and calamus were in thy market.

20 Dedan was thy merchant in garments of freedom for chariots.

21 Arabia, and all the chiefs of Kedar, they were traders of thy hand with lambs, and rams, and he-goats; with them, they were thy traders.

22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants; with the foremost of every spice, and with every precious stone, and gold, they gave for thy wares.

23 Haran, and Canneh, and Eden were the merchants of Sheba; Assyria, and Chilmad were thy merchants.

24 They were thy merchants with completeness, with blue balls of yarn and embroidery, and with chests of rich··apparel, bound··up with cords, and made of··cedar, in thy merchandise.

25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market; and thou wast filled, and made very glorious in the heart of the seas.

26 Thine oarsmen have brought thee into great waters; the east wind has broken thee in the heart of the seas.

27 Thy wealth, and thy wares, thy market, thy mariners, and thy shipmasters, they who repair thy cracks, and they who market in thy market, and all thy men of war, who are in thy midst, and in all thine assembly which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy fall.

28 The suburbs* shall quake at the voice of the cry of thy shipmasters.

29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the shipmasters of the sea, shall come··down from their ships, they shall stand in the land;

30 and shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall bring··up dust upon their heads, they shall roll··themselves··around in the ashes;

31 and they shall make· themselves ·bald for thee with baldness, and gird themmselves with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of soul and bitter wailing.

32 And in their wailing they shall take··up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, Who is as Tyre, as one cut··off in the midst of the sea?

33 When thy wares went··out from the seas, thou satisfied many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy wealth and of thy market.

34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the deeps of the waters thy market and all thine assembly in the midst of thee shall fall.

35 All they who dwell on the islands shall be··astonished by thee, and their kings shall shudder with shuddering, their faces thunder.

36 The traders among the peoples shall hiss against thee; vexations thou shalt become, and thou shalt not be even··to eternity.

254. "For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created." This symbolically means that everything in heaven and the church has been created and formed out of the Lord's Divine love by His Divine wisdom, or out of Divine good by Divine truth, which is also the Word, and that so likewise are people reformed and reborn.

This is the spiritual meaning of this statement, because creating symbolically means to reform and regenerate by Divine truth, and the Lord's will symbolizes Divine good.

Whether one says Divine good and truth or Divine love and wisdom, the meaning is the same, as all good is connected with love, and all truth with wisdom.

In Angelic Wisdom Regarding Divine Love and Wisdom we showed many times that everything in heaven and the church spring from Divine love and wisdom, in fact that the world was created out of them; and we showed too that love and good are connected with the will, and wisdom and truth with the intellect. Thus it is apparent that the Lord's will means His Divine good or love.

[2] That to create in the Word means to reform and regenerate is apparent from the following passages:

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalms 51:10)

You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good... You send forth Your Spirit, they are created. (Psalms 104:28, 30)

...a people yet to be created will praise Jah. (Psalms 102:18)

...behold, I am creating a new heaven and a new earth... ...rejoice forever in what I am creating; ...behold, I shall create Jerusalem an exultation... (Isaiah 65:17-18)

...Jehovah, who created the heavens..., who spread forth the earth..., who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it. (Isaiah 42:5, cf. 45:12, 45:18)

...thus says Jehovah, your Creator, O Jacob, and your Former, O Israel: ...I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name... Everyone who is called by My name, for My glory I have created him. (Isaiah 43:1, 7)

On the day that you were created they were prepared... You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till perversity was found in you. (Ezekiel 28:13, 15)

The latter is said of the King of Tyre, who symbolizes people who possess intelligence through Divine truth.

...that they may see and know, and consider and understand..., that the hand of Jehovah has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it. (Isaiah 41:19-20)
