Ezekiel 25

Studie

1 And the word of Jehovah was unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, set thy face against the sons of Ammon, and prophesy against them;

3 and say unto the sons of Ammon, Hear the word of the Lord Jehovih*; Thus says the Lord Jehovih; Because thou didst say, Aha, against My sanctuary, when it was··profaned; and against the ground of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into exile;

4 therefore, behold, I will give thee to the sons of the east for a possession, and they shall dwell in thee with their rows, and put their habitations in thee; they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk.

5 And I will give Rabbah for a home of camels, and the sons of Ammon a place· for flocks ·to··lie··down; and you shall know that I am Jehovah.

6 For thus says the Lord Jehovih; Because thou hast··clapped thy hands, and stamped* with the foot, and wast··glad in all thy contempt in thy soul against the ground of Israel,

7 behold, therefore I will stretch··out My hand on thee, and will give thee for plunder to the nations; and I will cut· thee ·off from the peoples, and I will cause thee to perish from the lands; I will blot· thee ·out; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.

8 Thus says the Lord Jehovih; Because Moab and Seir say, Behold, the house of Judah is as all the nations;

9 therefore, behold, I am opening the shoulder of Moab from the cities, from his cities, from his ends, the elegance of the land, Beth-jeshimoth, Baalmeon, and Kiriathaim,

10 unto the sons of the east with the sons of Ammon, and will give them for a possession, so··that the sons of Ammon may not be remembered among the nations.

11 And I will make judgments on Moab; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.

12 Thus says the Lord Jehovih, Because Edom has done to the house of Judah by avenging with vengeance, and being··guilty is··guilty, and has avenged himself upon them;

13 therefore thus says the Lord Jehovih; And I will stretch··out My hand on Edom, and will cut··off man and beast from her; and I will give her as a waste from Teman; and toward Dedan shall fall by the sword.

14 And I will put My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel; and they shall do in Edom according··to My anger and according··to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance, says the Lord Jehovih.

15 Thus says the Lord Jehovih; Because the Philistines have done this with vengeance, and have avenged with vengeance with contempt in the soul, for destruction with eternal enmity,

16 therefore thus says the Lord Jehovih; Behold, I will stretch··out My hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut··off the Cherethites, and make· to ·perish what··is··left of the sea coast.

17 And I will make great vengeance upon them with furious reprovings; and they shall know that I am Jehovah, when I shall put My vengeance upon them.

City

The Siege and Destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans Under the Command of Titus, by David Roberts

In the ancient world cities were nearly nations unto themselves – they existed within walls, with their own laws and customs, generally centered on the common purpose of trade. This is not as much the case in the modern world, but we still tend to divide ourselves city by city in terms of sports teams, accents, music and culture, and still tend to generalize the character of people from other cities. It follows, then, that in the Bible cities represent various doctrines – collections of inter-related ideas about spiritual reality. Such doctrines can be based on anything from the Lord’s true teachings – the New Jerusalem seen by John in Revelation – to the falsity and heresy of Sodom and various cities obliterated by the people of Israel at God’s command. On the most personal level, a city can also represent the natural mind of one person – which makes sense since we each to some extent have our own doctrine and our own set of ideas and beliefs.
