Ezekiel 23

Studie

And the word of Jehovah was unto me, saying,

Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

and they committed··harlotry in Egypt; in their youth they committed··harlotry; there were their breasts pressed··in, and there they handled the teats of their virginity.

And their names were Aholah* the elder, and Aholibah* her sister; and they were Mine, and they gave··birth to sons and daughters. And their names were Samaria which is Aholah, and Jerusalem which is Aholibah.

And Aholah committed··harlotry under Me; and she doted on her lovers, unto Assyria, her neighbors,

who were clothed··with blue, governors and dukes, all of them desirable young··men, horsemen riding horses.

And she gave her harlotries upon them, all of them who were the chosen sons of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted; with all their idols she was defiled.

And she forsook not her harlotries from Egypt; for in her youth they lay with her, and they handled the teats of her virginity, and spilled their harlotry upon her.

Therefore I have given her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the sons of Assyria, on whom she doted.

These revealed her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, and killed her with the sword; and she became a name among women, for they had made judgment upon her.

And her sister Aholibah saw, she was· more ·corrupt in her doting than she, and her harlotries were more than the harlotries of her sister.

She doted upon the sons of Assyria, governors and dukes, neighbors perfectly clothed, horsemen riding horses, all of them desirable young··men.

Then I saw that she was defiled, that the two of them took one way,

and that she added to her harlotries; and she saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,

girded with girdles on their loins, draped in dyed··attire on their heads, all of them third leaders in appearance, the likeness of the sons of Babylon of the Chaldeans, the land of their birth;

and as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

And the sons of Babylon came to her into the bed of loves, and they defiled her with their harlotry, and she was defiled with them, and her soul was··suspended from them.

And she revealed her harlotries, and revealed her nakedness. And My soul was··suspended from over her, as My soul was suspended from over her sister.

And she multiplied harlotries, when she remembered the days of her youth, in which she had committed··harlotry in the land of Egypt.

And she doted upon their concubines, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

And thou didst visit the crimes of thy youth, in handling thy teats from Egypt for the sake of the breasts of thy youth.

Therefore, O Aholibah, thus says the Lord Jehovih*, Behold, I will stir··up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy soul is suspended, and I will bring them against thee from all around;

the sons of Babylon, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, all the sons of Assyria with them; all of them desirable young··men, governors and dukes, third leaders and those who are called, all of them riding horses.

And they shall come against thee with wagon, chariot, and rolling, and with an assembly of people, and shall set against thee buckler and shield and helmet all around; and I will put judgment before them, and they shall judge thee with their judgments.

And I will give My zeal on thee, and they shall deal with thee with fury; they shall remove thy nose and thine ears; and the last of thee shall fall by the sword; they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and the last of thee shall be devoured by the fire.

And they shall strip thee of thy garments, and take the vessels of thine adornment.

And I shall make thy crimes to cease from thee, and thy harlotry brought from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt not lift··up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any··more.

For thus says the Lord Jehovih, Behold, I will give thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy soul is suspended.

And they shall do with thee with hatred, and shall take all thy toil, and shall leave thee naked and with nakedness; and the nakedness of thy harlotries shall be revealed, both thy crimes and thy harlotries.

I will do these things to thee, because thou hast committed··harlotry after the nations, and because thou art defiled with their idols.

Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thy hand.

Thus says the Lord Jehovih; Thou shalt drink of the cup of thy sister, deep and wide; thou shalt be laughed··at and in derision; it contains much.

Thou shalt··be··filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

And thou shalt drink it and suck· it ·out, and thou shalt fracture the pottery, and pull··off thine own breasts; for I have spoken, says the Lord Jehovih.

Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovih; Because thou hast forgotten Me, and cast Me behind thy body, then bear thou also thy crimes and thy harlotries.

And Jehovah said to me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah, and tell them their abominations?

For they have committed··adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed··adultery, and have also caused their sons, to whom they gave··birth for Me, to pass··through the fire for them for food.

Yet this they have done unto Me; they have defiled My sanctuary in that day, and have profaned My Sabbaths.

And when they had slaughtered their sons to their idols, then they came that day into My sanctuary to profane it; and, behold, thus have they done in the midst of My house.

And, yea, for you have sent for men to come from afar, unto whom a messenger was sent; and, behold, they came; for whom thou didst bathe thyself, didst paint thine eyes, and decorated thyself with decoration.

And thou didst sit on a glorious bed, and a table was arranged before it, and My incense and My oil thou hast set on it.

And a voice of a tranquil crowd was with her; and to the men from the multitude of man were brought those inebriated from the wilderness, and they put bracelets onto their hands, and crowns of adornment on their heads.

And I said to her that was worn··out by adulteries, Will they now commit··harlotry, and she her harlotries?

And they came··in unto her, as they go··in unto a woman that commits··harlotry; so came· they ·in unto Aholah and unto Aholibah, the scheming women.

And the just men, they shall judge them after the judgment of adulteresses, and after the judgment of women that shed blood; for they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

For thus says the Lord Jehovih; I will bring··up an assembly upon them, and will put them into turmoil and for plunder.

And the assembly shall stone against them with stones, and cut· them ·down with their swords; they shall kill their sons and their daughters, and burn··up their houses with fire.

And I will cause crime to cease from the land, and all the women may be chastened and not do as your crimes.

And they shall put your crime on you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols; and you shall know that I am the Lord Jehovih.

Tree

tree

In general, trees represent the deepest and most significant intellectual concepts: the ones that come to us most directly from the Lord. This varies depending on us and our states: the people of the Most Ancient Church, who were in a state of loving the Lord, understood truth automatically and internally through what the Writings call "perception"; people in lower states (including most of us) have to work a little harder to learn it from the Word and by willing to follow the Lord. In other parts of the Bible, especially in the prophets and New Testament parables, the meaning of "tree" is broader, meaning not just a person's intellectual concepts but the whole person.

'Trees,' as in Joel 1:10-12, signify knowledges.
