1 הִנֵּה עַל־הֶהָרִים רַגְלֵי מְבַשֵּׂר מַשְׁמִיעַ שָׁלֹום חָגִּי יְהוּדָה חַגַּיִךְ שַׁלְּמִי נְדָרָיִךְ כִּי לֹא יֹוסִיף עֹוד [כ= לַעֲבֹור] [ק= לַעֲבָר]־בָּךְ בְּלִיַּעַל כֻּלֹּה נִכְרָת׃

2 עָלָה מֵפִיץ עַל־פָּנַיִךְ נָצֹור מְצֻרָה צַפֵּה־דֶרֶךְ חַזֵּק מָתְנַיִם אַמֵּץ כֹּחַ מְאֹד׃

3 כִּי שָׁב יְהוָה אֶת־גְּאֹון יַעֲקֹב כִּגְאֹון יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי בְקָקוּם בֹּקְקִים וּזְמֹרֵיהֶם שִׁחֵתוּ׃

4 מָגֵן גִּבֹּרֵיהוּ מְאָדָּם אַנְשֵׁי־חַיִל מְתֻלָּעִים בְּאֵשׁ־פְּלָדֹות הָרֶכֶב בְּיֹום הֲכִינֹו וְהַבְּרֹשִׁים הָרְעָלוּ׃

5 בַּחוּצֹות יִתְהֹולְלוּ הָרֶכֶב יִשְׁתַּקְשְׁקוּן בָּרְחֹבֹות מַרְאֵיהֶן כַּלַּפִּידִם כַּבְּרָקִים יְרֹוצֵצוּ׃

6 יִזְכֹּר אַדִּירָיו יִכָּשְׁלוּ [כ= בַהֲלִכֹותָם] [ק= בַּהֲלִיכָתָם] יְמַהֲרוּ חֹומָתָהּ וְהֻכַן הַסֹּךֵךְ׃

7 שַׁעֲרֵי הַנְּהָרֹות נִפְתָּחוּ וְהַהֵיכָל נָמֹוג׃

8 וְהֻצַּב גֻּלְּתָה הֹעֲלָתָה וְאַמְהֹתֶיהָ מְנַהֲגֹות כְּקֹול יֹונִים מְתֹפְפֹת עַל־לִבְבֵהֶן׃

9 וְנִינְוֵה כִבְרֵכַת־מַיִם מִימֵי הִיא וְהֵמָּה נָסִים עִמְדוּ עֲמֹדוּ וְאֵין מַפְנֶה׃

10 בֹּזּוּ כֶסֶף בֹּזּוּ זָהָב וְאֵין קֵצֶה לַתְּכוּנָה כָּבֹד מִכֹּל כְּלִי חֶמְדָּה׃

11 בּוּקָה וּמְבוּקָה וּמְבֻלָּקָה וְלֵב נָמֵס וּפִק בִּרְכַּיִם וְחַלְחָלָה בְּכָל־מָתְנַיִם וּפְנֵי כֻלָּם קִבְּצוּ פָארוּר׃

12 אַיֵּה מְעֹון אֲרָיֹות וּמִרְעֶה הוּא לַכְּפִרִים אֲשֶׁר הָלַךְ אַרְיֵה לָבִיא שָׁם גּוּר אַרְיֵה וְאֵין מַחֲרִיד׃

13 אַרְיֵה טֹרֵף בְּדֵי גֹרֹותָיו וּמְחַנֵּק לְלִבְאֹתָיו וַיְמַלֵּא־טֶרֶף חֹרָיו וּמְעֹנֹתָיו טְרֵפָה׃

14 הִנְנִי אֵלַיִךְ נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאֹות וְהִבְעַרְתִּי בֶעָשָׁן רִכְבָּהּ וּכְפִירַיִךְ תֹּאכַל חָרֶב וְהִכְרַתִּי מֵאֶרֶץ טַרְפֵּךְ וְלֹא־יִשָּׁמַע עֹוד קֹול מַלְאָכֵכֵה׃ ס

Exploring the Meaning of Nahum 2

In Nahum 2, Nahum is prophesying a spiritual renewal -- the formation of a new church.

A 'church', in New Christian terminology, isn't a building for religious services, or a formal organization -- it's really better thought of as a state of belief, or the religious culture, of a group of people.

In the "church" in Nahum's day, in Judea, the religious culture had gotten hollowed out. People still followed the external rituals of worship, but many had lost sight of the internals -- they might avoid certain foods, or make prescribed sacrifices, but then not do the work of applying themselves to loving the Lord and the neighbor.

In Nahum 2:1-3, there's a prophecy of the Lord’s advent, and the development of a new church from Him, that he will protect. A mountain, here, means the Lord’s Divine Love. Feet mean the most external things, as is reflected in the Lord's taking on an earthly body in His advent.

In Nahum 2:3-6, it's talking about people who destroy the truths of the church in themselves and try to destroy them in others, to push away the Lord's protection.

In Nahum 2:7-10.... false ideas about life will prevail with people who destroy truths. All things that could be part of the church in them will ultimately be taken away.

In Nahum 2:11-13, it's saying that once all things of the church are taken away from a person, that person can no longer harm the church itself.

1 He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

2 For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

3 The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.
