1 וְאַתָּה הַקְרֵב אֵלֶיךָ אֶת־אַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ וְאֶת־בָּנָיו אִתֹּו מִתֹּוךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְכַהֲנֹו־לִי אַהֲרֹן נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן׃

2 וְעָשִׂיתָ בִגְדֵי־קֹדֶשׁ לְאַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ לְכָבֹוד וּלְתִפְאָרֶת׃

3 וְאַתָּה תְּדַבֵּר אֶל־כָּל־חַכְמֵי־לֵב אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּאתִיו רוּחַ חָכְמָה וְעָשׂוּ אֶת־בִּגְדֵי אַהֲרֹן לְקַדְּשֹׁו לְכַהֲנֹו־לִי׃

4 וְאֵלֶּה הַבְּגָדִים אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשׂוּ חֹשֶׁן וְאֵפֹוד וּמְעִיל וּכְתֹנֶת תַּשְׁבֵּץ מִצְנֶפֶת וְאַבְנֵט וְעָשׂוּ בִגְדֵי־קֹדֶשׁ לְאַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ וּלְבָנָיו לְכַהֲנֹו־לִי׃

5 וְהֵם יִקְחוּ אֶת־הַזָּהָב וְאֶת־הַתְּכֵלֶת וְאֶת־הָאַרְגָּמָן וְאֶת־תֹּולַעַת הַשָּׁנִי וְאֶת־הַשֵּׁשׁ׃ ף

6 וְעָשׂוּ אֶת־הָאֵפֹד זָהָב תְּכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן תֹּולַעַת שָׁנִי וְשֵׁשׁ מָשְׁזָר מַעֲשֵׂה חֹשֵׁב׃

7 שְׁתֵּי* כְתֵפֹת חֹבְרֹת יִהְיֶה־לֹּו אֶל־שְׁנֵי קְצֹותָיו וְחֻבָּר׃

8 וְחֵשֶׁב אֲפֻדָּתֹו אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו כְּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ מִמֶּנּוּ יִהְיֶה זָהָב תְּכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן וְתֹולַעַת שָׁנִי וְשֵׁשׁ מָשְׁזָר׃

9 וְלָקַחְתָּ אֶת־שְׁתֵּי אַבְנֵי־שֹׁהַם וּפִתַּחְתָּ עֲלֵיהֶם שְׁמֹות בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

10 שִׁשָּׁה מִשְּׁמֹתָם עַל הָאֶבֶן הָאֶחָת וְאֶת־שְׁמֹות הַשִּׁשָּׁה הַנֹּותָרִים עַל־הָאֶבֶן הַשֵּׁנִית כְּתֹולְדֹתָם׃

11 מַעֲשֵׂה חָרַשׁ אֶבֶן פִּתּוּחֵי חֹתָם תְּפַתַּח אֶת־שְׁתֵּי הָאֲבָנִים עַל־שְׁמֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מֻסַבֹּת מִשְׁבְּצֹות זָהָב תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתָם׃

12 וְשַׂמְתָּ אֶת־שְׁתֵּי הָאֲבָנִים עַל כִּתְפֹת הָאֵפֹד אַבְנֵי זִכָּרֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־שְׁמֹותָם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה עַל־שְׁתֵּי כְתֵפָיו לְזִכָּרֹן׃ ס

13 וְעָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁבְּצֹת זָהָב׃

14 וּשְׁתֵּי שַׁרְשְׁרֹת זָהָב טָהֹור מִגְבָּלֹת תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתָם מַעֲשֵׂה עֲבֹת וְנָתַתָּה אֶת־שַׁרְשְׁרֹת הָעֲבֹתֹת עַל־הַמִּשְׁבְּצֹת׃ ס

15 וְעָשִׂיתָ חֹשֶׁן מִשְׁפָּט מַעֲשֵׂה חֹשֵׁב כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֵפֹד תַּעֲשֶׂנּוּ זָהָב תְּכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן וְתֹולַעַת שָׁנִי וְשֵׁשׁ מָשְׁזָר תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתֹו׃

16 רָבוּעַ יִהְיֶה כָּפוּל זֶרֶת אָרְכֹּו וְזֶרֶת רָחְבֹּו׃

17 וּמִלֵּאתָ בֹו מִלֻּאַת אֶבֶן אַרְבָּעָה טוּרִים אָבֶן טוּר אֹדֶם פִּטְדָה וּבָרֶקֶת הַטּוּר הָאֶחָד׃

18 וְהַטּוּר הַשֵּׁנִי נֹפֶךְ סַפִּיר וְיָהֲלֹם׃

19 וְהַטּוּר הַשְּׁלִישִׁי לֶשֶׁם שְׁבֹו וְאַחְלָמָה׃

20 וְהַטּוּר הָרְבִיעִי תַּרְשִׁישׁ וְשֹׁהַם וְיָשְׁפֵה מְשֻׁבָּצִים זָהָב יִהְיוּ בְּמִלּוּאֹתָם׃

21 וְהָאֲבָנִים תִּהְיֶיןָ עַל־שְׁמֹת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה עַל־שְׁמֹתָם פִּתּוּחֵי חֹותָם אִישׁ עַל־שְׁמֹו תִּהְיֶיןָ לִשְׁנֵי עָשָׂר שָׁבֶט׃

22 וְעָשִׂיתָ עַל־הַחֹשֶׁן שַׁרְשֹׁת גַּבְלֻת מַעֲשֵׂה עֲבֹת זָהָב טָהֹור׃

23 וְעָשִׂיתָ עַל־הַחֹשֶׁן שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעֹות זָהָב וְנָתַתָּ אֶת־שְׁתֵּי הַטַּבָּעֹות עַל־שְׁנֵי קְצֹות הַחֹשֶׁן׃

24 וְנָתַתָּה אֶת־שְׁתֵּי עֲבֹתֹת הַזָּהָב עַל־שְׁתֵּי הַטַּבָּעֹת אֶל־קְצֹות הַחֹשֶׁן׃

25 וְאֵת שְׁתֵּי קְצֹות שְׁתֵּי הָעֲבֹתֹת תִּתֵּן עַל־שְׁתֵּי הַמִּשְׁבְּצֹות וְנָתַתָּה עַל־כִּתְפֹות הָאֵפֹד אֶל־מוּל פָּנָיו׃

26 וְעָשִׂיתָ שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעֹות זָהָב וְשַׂמְתָּ אֹתָם עַל־שְׁנֵי קְצֹות הַחֹשֶׁן עַל־שְׂפָתֹו אֲשֶׁר אֶל־עֵבֶר הָאֵפֹד* בָּיְתָה׃

27 וְעָשִׂיתָ שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעֹות זָהָב וְנָתַתָּה אֹתָם עַל־שְׁתֵּי כִתְפֹות הָאֵפֹוד מִלְּמַטָּה מִמּוּל פָּנָיו לְעֻמַּת מֶחְבַּרְתֹּו מִמַּעַל לְחֵשֶׁב הָאֵפֹוד׃

28 וְיִרְכְּסוּ אֶת־הַחֹשֶׁן [כ= מִטַּבְּעֹתֹו] [ק= מִטַּבְּעֹתָיו] אֶל־טַבְּעֹת הָאֵפֹד בִּפְתִיל תְּכֵלֶת לִהְיֹות עַל־חֵשֶׁב הָאֵפֹוד וְלֹא־יִזַּח הַחֹשֶׁן מֵעַל הָאֵפֹוד׃

29 וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־שְׁמֹות בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחֹשֶׁן הַמִּשְׁפָּט עַל־לִבֹּו בְּבֹאֹו אֶל־הַקֹּדֶשׁ לְזִכָּרֹן לִפְנֵי־יְהוָה תָּמִיד׃

30 וְנָתַתָּ אֶל־חֹשֶׁן הַמִּשְׁפָּט אֶת־הָאוּרִים וְאֶת־הַתֻּמִּים וְהָיוּ עַל־לֵב אַהֲרֹן בְּבֹאֹו לִפְנֵי יְהוָה וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־מִשְׁפַּט בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל־לִבֹּו לִפְנֵי יְהוָה תָּמִיד׃ ס

31 וְעָשִׂיתָ אֶת־מְעִיל הָאֵפֹוד כְּלִיל תְּכֵלֶת׃

32 וְהָיָה פִי־רֹאשֹׁו בְּתֹוכֹו שָׂפָה יִהְיֶה לְפִיו סָבִיב מַעֲשֵׂה אֹרֵג כְּפִי תַחְרָא יִהְיֶה־לֹּו לֹא יִקָּרֵעַ׃

33 וְעָשִׂיתָ עַל־שׁוּלָיו רִמֹּנֵי תְּכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן וְתֹולַעַת שָׁנִי עַל־שׁוּלָיו סָבִיב וּפַעֲמֹנֵי זָהָב בְּתֹוכָם סָבִיב׃

34 פַּעֲמֹן זָהָב וְרִמֹּון פַּעֲמֹן זָהָב וְרִמֹּון עַל־שׁוּלֵי הַמְּעִיל סָבִיב׃

35 וְהָיָה עַל־אַהֲרֹן לְשָׁרֵת וְנִשְׁמַע קֹולֹו בְּבֹאֹו אֶל־הַקֹּדֶשׁ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה וּבְצֵאתֹו וְלֹא יָמוּת׃ ס

36 וְעָשִׂיתָ צִּיץ זָהָב טָהֹור וּפִתַּחְתָּ עָלָיו פִּתּוּחֵי חֹתָם קֹדֶשׁ לַיהוָה׃

37 וְשַׂמְתָּ אֹתֹו עַל־פְּתִיל תְּכֵלֶת וְהָיָה עַל־הַמִּצְנָפֶת אֶל־מוּל פְּנֵי־הַמִּצְנֶפֶת יִהְיֶה׃

38 וְהָיָה עַל־מֵצַח אַהֲרֹן וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־עֲוֹן הַקֳּדָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר יַקְדִּישׁוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְכָל־מַתְּנֹת קָדְשֵׁיהֶם וְהָיָה עַל־מִצְחֹו תָּמִיד לְרָצֹון לָהֶם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה׃

39 וְשִׁבַּצְתָּ הַכְּתֹנֶת שֵׁשׁ וְעָשִׂיתָ מִצְנֶפֶת שֵׁשׁ וְאַבְנֵט תַּעֲשֶׂה מַעֲשֵׂה רֹקֵם׃

40 וְלִבְנֵי אַהֲרֹן תַּעֲשֶׂה כֻתֳּנֹת וְעָשִׂיתָ לָהֶם אַבְנֵטִים וּמִגְבָּעֹות תַּעֲשֶׂה לָהֶם לְכָבֹוד וּלְתִפְאָרֶת׃

41 וְהִלְבַּשְׁתָּ אֹתָם אֶת־אַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ וְאֶת־בָּנָיו אִתֹּו וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֹתָם וּמִלֵּאתָ אֶת־יָדָם וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ אֹתָם וְכִהֲנוּ לִי׃

42 וַעֲשֵׂה לָהֶם מִכְנְסֵי־בָד לְכַסֹּות בְּשַׂר עֶרְוָה מִמָּתְנַיִם וְעַד־יְרֵכַיִם יִהְיוּ׃

43 וְהָיוּ עַל־אַהֲרֹן וְעַל־בָּנָיו בְּבֹאָם אֶל־אֹהֶל מֹועֵד אֹו בְגִשְׁתָּם אֶל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ לְשָׁרֵת בַּקֹּדֶשׁ וְלֹא־יִשְׂאוּ עָוֹן וָמֵתוּ חֻקַּת עֹולָם לֹו וּלְזַרְעֹו אַחֲרָיו׃ ס

41. (Verse 8) I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. That this signifies that He rules all things from primaries by means of ultimates, and consequently all things of heaven to eternity, is evident from the signification of the Alpha and the Omega, as denoting the first and the last, or in primaries and in ultimates; and he who is in primaries and in ultimates also rules the intermediates; thus all things. These things are said concerning the Divine Human of the Lord, because they are said concerning Jesus Christ, by which names is meant His Divine Human (as shown above, n. 26). By means of this the Lord is in primaries and in ultimates. But that He rules all things from primaries by means of ultimates is a mystery not hitherto perceived by man. For man knows nothing concerning the successive degrees into which the heavens are distinguished, and into which also the interiors of man are distinguished; and little concerning the fact that man, as to his flesh and bones, is in ultimates. Neither does he perceive how intermediates are ruled from primaries by means of ultimates, when nevertheless the Lord came into the world that He might put on a Human and glorify it, that is, make it Divine, even to ultimates, that is, even to flesh and bones, in order that He might thus rule all things. That the Lord put on such a Human, and took it with Him into heaven, is known in the church from the fact that He left nothing of His body in the sepulchre; and also from His words to His disciples:

"Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; [handle me] and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have" (Luke 24:39).

It is by means of this, therefore, that the Lord is in ultimates; and because He made these things also Divine, He thus entered into the Divine power of ruling all things from primaries by means of ultimates. If the Lord had not done this, the human race on this earth would have perished in eternal death. But this mystery cannot here be further enlarged on, because many things must be known in order that an idea may be formed and obtained concerning the Divine government from primaries by means of ultimates. (Some light, however, may be obtained on the subject from the following things shown in Arcana Coelestia:- That interior things flow successively into external things, even into what is outermost or ultimate, and that they also exist or subsist there, n. Arcana Coelestia 634, 6239, 6465, 9216, 9217. Concerning the order of influx, that internal things not only flow in successively, but also form what is simultaneous in the ultimate, n. 5897, 6451, 8603, 10099. That therefore all interior things are held together in connection, from what is primary by means of the ultimate, n. 9828, and in the work, Heaven and Hell 297. That consequently in ultimates there is strength and power, n. Arcana Coelestia 9836; that hence also the ultimate is more holy than interior things, n. 9824; that consequently the first and the last signify all things, n. 10044, 10329, 10335. Concerning the successive degrees into which the heavens are distinguished, and into which also the interiors of man are distinguished, see the work, Heaven and Hell 38.) It is said also, that the Lord is the beginning and the end, by which is meant that He is from eternity to eternity; but this cannot be more fully explained than has been done above (n. 23, which see).

5265. 'The seven good cows are seven years' means a state when truth within the interior natural is multiplied. This is clear from the meaning of 'the cows' in the good sense as the truths belonging to the interior natural, dealt with in 5198; and from the meaning of 'years' as states, dealt with in 482, 487, 488, 493, 893. There were seven because 'seven' means that which is holy and therefore adds the idea of holiness to the matter under discussion, dealt with in 395, 433, 716, 881, as well as implying a whole period from start to finish, 728. This explains why in the dream seven cows and seven heads of grain were seen, and after that why there were seven years of abundance of corn and seven years of famine. It also explains why the seventh day was made holy, why in the representative Church the seventh year was a sabbatical year, and why after seven times seven years there was a Jubilee.

[2] 'Seven' means things that are holy because of the meanings that numbers have in the world of spirits. Each number there holds some spiritual reality within it. Visual indications of numbers have appeared to me frequently, simple and compound ones, and also on one occasion a long sequence of them, when I have wondered what meanings they possessed. I have been told that they have their origin in conversations held by angels, and that it is customary from time to time to use numbers to express spiritual realities too. These numbers are not seen in heaven but in the world of spirits, where the visual presentation of such things takes place. The most ancients, who were celestial people and who talked to angels, knew all about this, which was why they used numbers to express an evaluation of the Church. The numbers used by them conveyed a general overall idea of matters for which words served to provide a detailed description. The meaning contained within every number did not however continue to be known among the descendants of these people; only the meanings of the simple numbers survived, that is to say, the meanings of two, three, six, seven, eight, twelve, and from these the meanings of twenty-four, seventy-two, and seventy-seven. In particular their descendants knew that 'seven' meant that which was most holy - that is to say, that in the highest sense 'seven' meant the Divine Himself, and in the representative sense the celestial element of love - and that the state of the celestial man was therefore meant by 'the seventh day', 84-87.

Let him who has intelligence reckon the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, that is, its number is six hundred and sixty-six. Revelation 13:18.

And elsewhere in the same book,

The angel measured the wall of the holy Jerusalem, a hundred and forty-four cubits, which is the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. Revelation 11:17.

The number one hundred and forty-four is twelve squared and twice seventy-two.
