Hosea 5

Studie

   

1 So hört nun dies, ihr Priester, und merke auf, du Haus Israel, und nimm zu Ohren, du Haus des Königs! denn es wird eine Strafe über euch gehen, die ihr ein Strick zu Mizpa und ein ausgespanntes Netz zu Thabor geworden seid.

2 Mit ihrem Schlachten vertiefen sie sich in ihrem Verlaufen; darum muß ich sie allesamt strafen.

3 Ich kenne Ephraim wohl, und Israel ist vor mir nicht verborgen, daß Ephraim nun eine Hure und Israel unrein ist.

4 Sie denken nicht daran, daß sie sich kehren zu ihrem Gott; denn sie haben einen Hurengeist in ihrem Herzen, und den HERRN kennen sie nicht.

5 Und die Hoffart Israels zeugt wider sie ins Angesicht. Darum sollen beide, Israel und Ephraim, fallen um ihrer Missetat willen; auch soll Juda samt ihnen fallen.

6 Alsdann werden sie kommen mit ihren Schafen und Rindern, den HERRN zu suchen, aber ihn nicht finden; denn er hat sich von ihnen gewandt.

7 Sie verachten den HERRN und zeugen fremde Kinder; darum wird sie auch der Neumond fressen mit ihrem Erbteil.

8 Ja, blaset Posaunen zu Gibea, ja, drommetet zu Rama, ja, ruft zu Beth-Aven: "Hinter dir, Benjamin!"

9 Denn Ephraim soll zur Wüste werden zu der Zeit, wann ich sie strafen werde. Davor habe ich die Stämme Israels treulich gewarnt.

10 Die Fürsten Juda's sind gleich denen, so die Grenze verrücken; darum will ich meinen Zorn über sie ausschütten wie Wasser.

11 Ephraim leidet Gewalt und wird geplagt; daran geschieht ihm recht, denn er hat sich gegeben auf Menschengebot.

12 Ich bin dem Ephraim wie eine Motte und dem Hause Juda wie eine Made.

13 Und da Ephraim seine Krankheit und Juda seine Wunde fühlte, zog Ephraim hin zu Assur und schickte den König Jareb; aber er kann euch nicht helfen noch eure Wunde heilen.

14 Denn ich bin dem Ephraim wie ein Löwe und dem Hause Juda wie ein junger Löwe. Ich, ich zerreiße sie und gehe davon; ich führe sie weg, und niemand kann sie retten.

15 Ich will wiederum an meinen Ort gehen, bis sie ihre Schuld erkennen und mein Angesicht suchen; wenn's ihnen übel geht, so werden sie mich suchen und sagen:

374. That 'the voice of blood' 1 means violence done to charity is clear from many places in the Word where 'voice' stands for everything that accuses, and 'blood' for all sin, especially hatred. For anyone who hates his brother murders him in his own heart, as the Lord teaches,

You have heard that it was said to the men of old, You shall not kill, and whoever kills will be liable to judgement. But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without cause will be liable to judgement. Whoever indeed says to his brother, Raca! will be liable to the Sanhedrin. And whoever says You fool! will be liable to the Gehenna of fire. Matthew 5:21-22.

These sayings denote degrees of hatred. Hatred is contrary to charity; and though a person does not actually commit murder, the intention to do so is still there, and by whatever possible method. It is external restraints alone which prevent murder actually being committed. And this is why all hatred is called blood, as in Jeremiah,

How well you direct Your way in the quest for love! Yes, in your skirts the blood of needy innocent souls is found. Jeremiah 2:33-34.

[2] And since hatred is meant by blood, so is every kind of wickedness, for hatred is the source of all wickedness, as in Hosea,

Perjuring, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they commit robbery, and blood' has followed on blood. 1 Therefore the land will mourn and every inhabitant will anguish. Hosea 4:2-3.

And in Ezekiel,

Will you judge the city of blood' and declare to her all her abominations? A City that sheds blood' in the midst of her. By your blood which you have shed you have become guilty. Ezekiel 22:2-4, 6, 9.

This is referring to the lack of compassion. In the same prophet,

The land is full of the judgement of blood, 1 and the city is full of violence. Ezekiel 7:23.

And in Jeremiah,

For the sins of the prophets of Jerusalem, the iniquities of her priests who shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous, they wander blind in the streets; they are defiled with blood. Lamentations 4:13-14.

In Isaiah,

When the Lord will have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and wiped away from its midst the blood 1 of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning. Isaiah 4:4.

In the same prophet,

Your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Isaiah 59:3.

In Ezekiel,

I passed by you and saw you weltering in your blood, 1 and I said to you, Live in your blood 1 I indeed said to you, Live in your blood. 1 Ezekiel 16:6, 22.

This refers to the abominations of Jerusalem, which are called 'blood' 1 . Lack of compassion, and hatred, in the last times a real so described as blood in Revelation 16:3-4. The plural 'bloods' is used because all forms of iniquity and abomination well up out of hatred, just as all forms of good and holiness do out of love. Anyone therefore who hates his neighbour would murder him if he could, and he does do so in whatever way he can. That is to say, he does him violence, which is strictly the meaning here of 'voice of blood'. 1

Steal

  

In a natural sense, the commandment 'Thou shalt not steal,' in Exodus 20:15, means, according to the letter, not stealing, robbing, or committing piracy in peace time, and in general, not secretly depriving anyone of his goods, or under any pretext. It also extends to all pretense, illegitimate gain, unreasonable loans, and extortion. It can also refer to tax, tariff or debt fraud. Workmen break this commandment in doing their work unfaithfully and dishonestly, as do merchants who deceive with their product, either in weight, measure, or accounting, officers depriving soldiers of wages, judges ruling for friends, bribes, relationship, affinity, and other ways of perverting the laws or legal cases, and so deprive others of their rightful possessions. In a spiritual sense, stealing means depriving others of the truths of their faith with falsity and heresy. Priests ministering only for the sake of gain, or worldly honor, and teach as they see fit or can see from the Word as untrue, are spiritual thieves, since they take the means of salvation, which are the truths of faith, away from people. In several passages of the Word, these priests are even called thieves. In a celestial sense, thieves mean people who take divine power away from the Lord, and claim His merit and righteousness themselves. These people may outwardly worship God, but still do not trust or even believe in Him, but only themselves.
