2 Mose 24

Studie

   

1 Und er sprach zu Mose: Steige zu Jehova herauf, du und Aaron, Nadab und Abihu und siebzig von den Ältesten Israels, und betet an von ferne.

2 Und Mose allein nahe sich zu Jehova; sie aber sollen sich nicht nahen, und das Volk soll nicht mit ihm heraufsteigen.

3 Und Mose kam und erzählte dem Volke alle Worte Jehovas und alle echte; und das ganze Volk antwortete mit einer Stimme und sprach: Alle Worte, die Jehova geredet hat, wollen wir tun.

4 Und Mose schrieb alle Worte Jehovas nieder. Und er machte sich des Morgens früh auf und baute einen Altar unten am Berge und zwölf Denksteine nach den zwölf Stämmen Israels.

5 Und er sandte Jünglinge der Kinder Israel hin, und sie opferten Brandopfer und schlachteten Friedensopfer (O. Dankopfer) von Farren dem Jehova.

6 Und Mose nahm die Hälfte des Blutes und tat es in Schalen, und die Hälfte des Blutes sprengte er an den Altar.

7 Und er nahm das Buch des Bundes und las es vor den Ohren des Volkes; und sie sprachen: Alles, was Jehova geredet hat, wollen wir tun und gehorchen.

8 Und Mose nahm das Blut und sprengte es auf das Volk und sprach: Siehe, das Blut des Bundes, den Jehova mit euch gemacht hat über alle diese Worte. (O. nach allen diesen Worten)

9 Und es stiegen hinauf Mose und Aaron, Nadab und Abihu, und siebzig von den Ältesten Israels;

10 und sie sahen den Gott Israels; und unter seinen Füßen war es wie ein Werk von Saphirplatten und wie der Himmel selbst (Eig. wie das Wesen des Himmels) an Klarheit.

11 Und er streckte seine Hand nicht aus gegen die Edlen der Kinder Israel; und sie schauten Gott und aßen und tranken.

12 Und Jehova sprach zu Mose: Steige zu mir herauf auf den Berg und sei daselbst; und ich werde dir die steinernen Tafeln geben und das Gesetz (Eig. die Lehre, Unterweisung) und das Gebot, das ich geschrieben habe, um sie zu belehren.

13 Und Mose machte sich auf mit Josua, seinem Diener, und Mose stieg auf den Berg Gottes.

14 Und er sprach zu den Ältesten: Wartet hier auf uns, bis wir zu euch zurückkehren; und siehe, Aaron und Hur sind bei euch: wer irgend eine Sache hat, trete vor sie.

15 Und Mose stieg auf den Berg, und die Wolke bedeckte den Berg.

16 Und die Herrlichkeit Jehovas ruhte auf dem Berge Sinai, und die Wolke bedeckte ihn sechs Tage; und am siebten Tage rief er Mose aus der Mitte der Wolke.

17 Und das Ansehen der Herrlichkeit Jehovas war wie ein verzehrendes Feuer auf dem Gipfel des Berges vor den Augen der Kinder Israel.

18 Und Mose ging mitten in die Wolke hinein und stieg auf den Berg; und Mose war auf dem Berge vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte.

9346. Lest perchance they make thee sin against Me. That this signifies lest evils turn away the goods that are from the Lord, is evident from the signification of “the inhabitants of the land,” of whom it is said “lest perchance they make thee sin,” as being evils (as above); from the signification of “to sin,” as being to turn away (n. 5474, 5841, 7589); and from the signification of “thee against Me,” as being the goods that are from the Lord; for by “the sons of Israel,” who are here meant by “thee,” are signified those who are in good, thus goods (n. 5801, 5803, 5806, 5812, 5817, 5819, 5826, 5833, 9340); and by “Jehovah,” who is here meant by “Me,” is meant the the Lord, (n. 9199, 9315). That evils turn away the goods that are from the Lord, is because evils and goods are opposites or contraries, and two opposites or contraries cannot be together, for they turn away from each other, and are in conflict. This can be plainly seen from the fact that evils are from hell, and goods from heaven; and that hell is as far as possible from heaven—not in respect to distance, because in the other life there is no distance—but in respect to state. Therefore they who are in the state of hell cannot be transferred into the state of heaven, for the evils in the former reject the goods in the latter. This is meant by the words of Abraham to the rich man:

Between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that they who would pass from hence to you cannot, neither can those who are there pass over to us (Luke 16:26);

“the great gulf” denotes the opposition and contrariety of the states of life. From all this it is evident how it is to be understood that evils turn away the goods that are from the Lord; namely, that those who are in evils not only do not receive the goods which continually flow into everyone from the Lord; but also absolutely turn them away. And therefore a man cannot possibly receive the good of heaven until he abstains from evils.

3758. GENESIS 29

1. And Jacob lifted up his feet, and went to the land of the sons of the east.

2. And he saw, and behold a well in the field, and behold there three droves of the flock lying by it; for out of that well they watered the droves; and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.

3. And all the droves were gathered together thither; and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock, and they put the stone in its place again upon the well’s mouth.

4. And Jacob said unto them, My brethren whence are ye? And they said, We are from Haran.

5. And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

6. And he said unto them, Hath he peace? And they said, Peace; and behold Rachel his daughter cometh with the flock.

7. And he said, Behold as yet the day is great, it is not time for the cattle to be gathered together: water ye the flock, and go and feed them.

8. And they said, We cannot until all the droves are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then shall we water the flock.

9. While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with the flock which was her father’s, for she was a shepherdess.

10. And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the flock of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob came near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

11. And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.

12. And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son; and she ran and told her father.

13. And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house; and he told Laban all these things.

14. And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he dwelt with him a month of days.

15. And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? Tell me, what shall be thy reward?

16. And Laban had two daughters, the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

17. And Leah’s eyes were weak, and Rachel was beautiful in form and beautiful in look.

18. And Jacob loved Rachel, and he said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

19. And Laban said, It is better that I should give her to thee than give her to another man; abide with me.

20. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they were in his eyes as a few days, for the love he had to her.

21. And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my woman, for my days are fulfilled, and I will come to her.

22. And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

23. And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him, and he came to her.

24. And Laban gave her Zilpah his handmaid, unto his daughter Leah for a handmaid.

25. And it came to pass in the morning that behold it was Leah; and he said unto Laban, What is this that thou hast done unto me? Did not I serve with thee for Rachel? And why hast thou defrauded me?

26. And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.

27. Fulfill this week, and we will give thee her also, for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

28. And Jacob did so, and fulfilled this week, and he gave him Rachel his daughter for a woman.

29. And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be to her for a handmaid.

30. And he came also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

31. And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, and He opened her womb, and Rachel was barren.

32. And Leah conceived and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, Because Jehovah hath seen my affliction, for now my man will love me.

33. And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said, Because Jehovah hath heard that I was hated, and hath given me this one also; and she called his name Simeon.

34. And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said, Now this time will my man cleave to me, because I have borne him three sons; therefore she called his name Levi.

35. And she conceived again, and bare a son, and she said, This time I will confess Jehovah; therefore she called his name Judah; and she stood still from bearing.

THE CONTENTS.

In the internal sense of this chapter by “Jacob” is described the Lord’s natural-how the good of truth therein was conjoined with kindred good from a Divine origin, which good is “Laban;” at first through the affection of external truth, which is “Leah;” and then through the affection of internal truth, which is “Rachel.”
