1 So spricht Jehova: Wegen drei Freveltaten von Moab und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen: Weil es die Gebeine des Königs von Edom zu Kalk verbrannt hat,

2 so werde ich ein Feuer senden nach Moab, und es wird die Paläste von Kerijoth verzehren; und Moab wird sterben im Getümmel, unter Kriegsgeschrei, unter Posaunenschall;

3 und ich werde den ichter ausrotten aus seiner Mitte und alle seine Fürsten mit ihm umbringen, spricht Jehova.

4 So spricht Jehova: Wegen drei Freveltaten von Juda und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen: Weil sie das Gesetz Jehovas verworfen und seine Satzungen nicht bewahrt haben, und ihre Lügen sie verführten, denen ihre Väter nachgewandelt sind,

5 so werde ich ein Feuer senden nach Juda, und es wird die Paläste Jerusalems verzehren.

6 So spricht Jehova: Wegen drei Freveltaten von Israel und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen: Weil sie den Gerechten für Geld und den Dürftigen um ein Paar Schuhe verkaufen;

7 sie, welche danach lechzen, den Staub der Erde auf dem Haupte der Armen zu sehen, und den Weg der Sanftmütigen (O. Demütigen) krümmen; und ein Mann und sein Vater gehen zu derselben Dirne, um meinen heiligen Namen zu entweihen;

8 und neben jedem Altare strecken sie sich hin auf gepfändeten Oberkleidern, (Vergl. 2. Mose 22,26. 27; 5. Mose 24,12. 13.) und im Hause ihres Gottes trinken sie Wein von Strafgeldern (W. Wein der an Geld Gestraften.)

9 Und doch habe ich den Amoriter vor ihnen vertilgt, dessen Höhe wie die Höhe der Cedern war, und er war stark wie die Eichen; und ich habe seine Frucht vertilgt von oben und seine Wurzeln von unten.

10 Und doch habe ich euch aus dem Lande Ägypten heraufgeführt und euch vierzig Jahre in der Wüste geleitet, damit ihr das Land des Amoriters in Besitz nähmet.

11 Und ich habe Propheten erweckt aus euren Söhnen und Nasiräer aus euren Jünglingen. Ja, ist es nicht also, ihr Kinder Israel, spricht Jehova (Eig. ist der Spruch Jehovas; so auch nachher?)

12 Aber ihr habt den Nasiräern Wein zu trinken gegeben, und den Propheten geboten und gesagt: Ihr sollt nicht weissagen! -

13 Siehe, ich werde euch niederdrücken, wie der Wagen drückt, der voll Garben ist.

14 Und dem Schnellen wird die Flucht entschwinden; und der Starke wird seine Kraft nicht befestigen, und der Held sein Leben nicht erretten;

15 und der den Bogen führt, wird nicht standhalten; und der Schnellfüßige wird nicht entrinnen, und der auf dem osse reitet sein Leben nicht erretten;

16 und der Beherzteste unter den Helden wird nackt entfliehen an jenem Tage, spricht Jehova.

377. Verses 7-8. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth animal saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a pale horse; and he that sat upon him his name was Death, and hell followed with him. And there was given unto them power over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

7. "And when he had opened the fourth seal," signifies prediction still further manifested (n. 378); "I heard the voice of the fourth animal saying," signifies out of the inmost heaven from the Lord. n. 379); "Come and see," signifies attention and perception (n. 380).

8. "And I saw, and behold a pale horse," signifies the understanding of the Word then become nought in consequence of evils of life and then of falsities therefrom n. 381; "and he that sat upon him," signifies the Word (n. 382); "his name was Death, and hell followed with him," signifies eternal damnation (n. 383); "and there was given unto them power over the fourth part of the earth, to kill," signifies the loss of every good and thence of every truth from the Word, and in consequence, in the doctrine of their church from the Word n. 384; "with sword," signifies by falsity (n. 385); "and with famine," signifies by the loss, lack, and ignorance of the knowledges of truth and good (n. 386); "and with death," signifies the consequent extinction of spiritual life (n. 387); "and by the wild beasts of the earth," signifies the evils of life or lusts and falsities therefrom springing from the love of self and of the world, which devastate all things of the church with man n. 388.

7906. 'No yeast shall be found in your houses' means no falsity whatever shall come near good. This is clear from the meaning of 'yeast' as falsity, dealt with below; and from the meaning of 'house' as good, dealt with in 3652, 3720, 4982, 7833-7835. The meaning of 'yeast' as falsity becomes clear from the places where yeast and anything made with yeast, and also where unleavened and anything made without yeast are mentioned, such as in Matthew,

Jesus said, Look out for and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then the disciples understood that He had not said that they should beware of the yeast used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Matthew 16:6, 11.

Here 'yeast' plainly stands for false teaching. Because 'yeast' meant falsity it was forbidden to sacrifice the blood of the sacrifice with anything made with yeast, Exodus 23:18; 34:25. For 'the blood of the sacrifice' meant holy truth, thus truth pure and free from all falsity, 4735, 6978, 7317, 7326, 7846, 7850. It was also laid down that the minchah offered on the altar should not be baked with yeast in it, Leviticus 6:15-17, and that cakes and wafers also should be made without yeast, Leviticus 7:11-13.

[2] To go further with what 'made with yeast' and 'not made with yeast' refer to, it should be recognized that the purification of truth from falsity cannot ever come about in a person without so called fermentation, that is, without the conflict of falsity with truth and of truth with falsity. But after the conflict has taken place and truth has triumphed, the falsity falls away like dregs and the truth emerges purified. It is like wine that becomes clear after fermentation as the dregs sink to the bottom. That fermentation or conflict takes place especially when a person's state undergoes a change, that is to say, when his actions begin to spring from the good of charity, and not as previously from the truth of faith. For a person's state is not yet made pure while his actions spring from the truth of faith, but they have been made pure when they spring from the good of charity, since they now spring from his will. Previously they sprang merely from his understanding.

[3] Spiritual conflicts or temptations are fermentations in the spiritual sense, for during them falsities wish to link themselves to truths, but the truths reject them, eventually sending them to the bottom so to speak and in that way becoming refined. This is the sense in which to understand what the Lord teaches about 'yeast' in Matthew,

The kingdom of heaven is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until the whole was fermented by it. Matthew 13:33.

'Flour' is truth from which good is derived. Also in Hosea,

They are all committing adultery, like an oven heated by a baker; the raiser 1 ceases from kneading the dough until it has fermented. Hosea 7:4.

Since such conflicts, meant by 'fermentations', take place with a person in the state before he attains newness of life, as has been stated, it was also laid down that the new minchah, the bread of the wave-offering, that was to be brought at the feast of first fruits, should be baked with yeast; and that was to be the first fruits to Jehovah, Leviticus 23:16-17.
